what’s eating my blue chalk sticks??

I recently planted a little 4” container of blue chalk sticks. Within a few days it was eaten down to little nubs. I say ate because there is no sign of the existence of leaves left behind. Any ideas? Could slugs eat entire leaves? I’m in Sacramento, zone 9b. Thanks for any help!

How annoying! I have not had trouble with this plant, but you could put out some Sluggo just in case. Do you have squirrels? That’s a lot of damage for slugs. Sorry I’m not much help.

Woodchucks? I heard in a book that those eat off veggies close to the ground like that. Don't know if we have those out here though.

Hmmmmm. We do have ground squirrels and tree squirrels. But don’t think they’d be out at night. And raccoons. Maybe I’ll plant another and set up a camera. ;-) Forgot about Sluggo! Adding that to the shopping list...
