Late last summer/early fall I started experiencing deteriorating parquet wood floor tiles in my house (I live in Central Florida in a ranch house on a slab). What I originally thought to be a plumbing problem was actually diagnosed as an infestation of subterranean termites. After getting multiple estimates for treatment I decided to tackle the project myself (using the same method as described in the estimates and online). I dug a 6" wide and 6" deep around the perimeter of my house. In the carport, porch and patio I used a hammer drill every foot (6" from the wall) to gain access beneath the slab. I used Taurus SC (bought from one of the online DIY pest control websites) and mixed it double strength per directions (due to the active infestation) and poured into the trench and through the drilled holes. I sprayed the dirt backfill with the Taurus SC as I filled in the trench. I also spot treated inside (spraying undeneath the damaged floor tiles and several areas). It took a few months but it seemed to work. The progression of deterioration seemed to stop. Earlier this year I started replacing the damaged tiles (with some leftovers that I had from a kitchen remodel) and saw dead termites by the thousands. It appeared to be a successful treatement. HOWEVER.....just yesterday I noticed one slightly shoddy portion of a tile (very near where the problem had originated). I thought that I had forgotten to replace that area of the floor. Upon prying up the tile I found (you guessed it) termites. I am absolutely flabbergasted. So far I have only seen them in this one very small spot. Is there a chance that a few termites could still be lingering EIGHT months after treatment? How could they have come back? Did I do something wrong? Should I do the treatment again? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
