We are moving into our new house soon and I need to start furniture shopping. As you can see it's open concept house where living room, kitchen, dining room are pretty much wide open.

Floor in the dining room and living room are very dark. We have two young kids and couple of cats. We want the space to be functional and casual and not formal. I prefer sectional if I can find one for the space. I went through houzz and looked at some great picture of houses with dark floor and they are usually..

1. Dark floor + light color sofa
2. Dark floor + rug(not brown) + dark sofa

Dilemma for is that I don't want rug and I don't think we can do light color leather (due to kids) and I don't think we can do fabric sofa(due to cats). So it comes down to just brown/black leather sofa/sectional and I don't think it will work with dark floor. I considered gray sofas but I haven't found one that I like. They are too ultra modern(my kids will break it soon enough) or too fluffy.

Any suggestion on what kind of sofa can work in this space?

Any suggestion/idea for this house is welcome. We need to get some sort of window treatment too.
