Help! Citrus Sun-scald/Sunburn

So it appeared that my Meyer lemon was making a nice recovery from losing all its leaves from frost last winter. As I was pruning the remaining dead branches, I glanced at the trunk. Then, I saw the bark peeling away and gave it a closer look. It appeared that the trunk has sun-scald/sunburn and that the wood was rotting. I heard that tree paint works, but the organic one (IV Organics) costs $30. Is there any way or product (preferably organic) to prevent further damage and help the current damage heal? Will my tree survive?

Any advice or former experiences are greatly appreciated.

The best way to avoid further damage is to leave it be. Paint is out-of-date practice for tree care.

Potential bigger problem -- graft may be failing; or maybe not. Only time will tell.

What makes you think this is sun scald and not frost damage or indeed some other issue affecting the graft union? When I see similar 'wounds' I just apply a thick copper based paste mixed with insecticide and then leave it be hoping for the best. Unless an expert can identify exactly what the issue is and prescribe curative means.

I have a lime tree that had similar but worse damage from frost but the tree is still alive and produces. I just let tree damage repair itself. Eventually, it should seal up.

To me it looks like a mechanical damage. If it is kept outdoors, could be caused by some sort of critter. In any case, you see that branch right next to the damage - keep it and it will help heal that damage quickly.
