Now that is a Dreamy Bedroom! I know it's tempting to add more (artwork you asked about) but I think I would stop here as this is perfect! Maybe later if you feel it's still in need of the art. Did you have a particular inspiration for this room or just knew what you wanted? It's wonderful and the furry bench sounds just right!

You are right about the color temp of the lighting and my tab makes things look dark blue. All that being said...This room is spetacular!! I agree with lovemrmewey, hold up on the art. Your room is beautiful..restful and calm. Wish I could pick up the purple on my tablet.

Thanks for the encouragement all! Was certainly a risk that paid off, and we toiled over this color for a while. In the end it took me painting half a wall and also to model the room on the computer to see if such a dark color would work.

During the day in the sunlight it is clearly purple, but very, very dark. At night sometimes it feels black, but always with a purple tint. I think eggplant describes it pretty well. Some of the purple accoutrements help show that we picked this color on purpose :) In an earlier thread people thought we should tone down some of the white trim, doors, and ceiling. We are still considering this...a metallic silver ceiling would be cool (but likely expensive and messy).

@lovemrmewey, no real inspiration except my wife wanted something "glam" and it had to have a tufted bed. Originally she thought all shades of grey, but after painting our dining room a really dark blue we were inspired to try something else dark. Also, no real reason for the artwork other than more is more, but after everyones comments I think I'll hold back and try less is more for a while. Also it makes no sense to do anything until we get curtains and see how that looks. We are thinking a shimmery silver.

One other thing, is we went risky/bold with the walls, but everything else is shades of silver in case we tire of the purple.

@celerygirl, thanks for the test pics with art. I especially like the second, but maybe things are getting a bit crowded. I'll get up the curtains, which will also eat into some of the wall space, so will hold off a bit more. I found some cool x-ray photographs of flowers tinted purple that looked kind of neat.

I need to post a shot of the TV wall, its across from the chair -- and is just a TV floating on the wall. The wires are still hanging, and there is a lot going on on the wall with switches, thermostats, volume controls, etc. Maybe I can do something there to hide all that business.

@pamelamcleod, thanks. We saw the Benjamin Moore color of the year "Shadow" on the cover of one of their books (its the it's the shot with the spiral staircase) and thought it looked really cool. The problem was the shot was lit really dramatically and in person, the color seemed too light and too purple. We went one shade darker called "Galaxy" which evoked more of the drama we were looking for. This is a new house for us, and the old house was all Tuscan earthy shades of gold and brick and sage, so when we moved we wanted to change it up a bit. We still have some light sage (it worked well in the kitchen with the existing cabinets and countertops), but in the dining room went with a really dark blue. We loved the dark blue so much we went dark in our bathroom (super dark green -- BM "Dragon's breath", and thought lets try it in the bedroom. Worst case, we paint right back over it (we knew we were replacing everything else anyway). Turns out, we love the dark colors, but are lucky that we have tons of light so don't feel anything is cavelike :) Some other colors we went with were some trendy taupes and greys. We have NO gold or yellow anywhere anymore!

One other challenge we are struggling with is that some of the rooms still have the heavy ornate wood, gold, silk in a rococo style, while others are trending more transitional or deco. Hopefully we are making it work by keeping most rooms consistent, but as a whole our house is now a bit of a mish-mash. Our dining room is like a war between the two styles, but it kind of works...I think. Maybe I'll post that on a separate thread to get some opinions.

Another interesting thing we have found: are antique brass fixtures coming back? We decided to use antique brass hardware with the silver in the bedroom for knobs, handles, accents. Kind of hard to see on the dresser and nightstands in the pics, but it's there. Was counterintuitive vs. brushed nickel or stainless, but we loved the personality. We now are seeing it more commonly, wonder if trend has subliminally guided us?

Everyone else: thanks so much for the encouraging words, we are especially pleased and wish some of our other decorating has been as dramatic and successful!

Keep any ideas or tips coming, we are kind of decorated out at this point, so moving at a snails pace. Am guessing it will take at least a year before we get curtains :)
