Why can’t you paint the grids too? If they are between the glass yes it will look ridiculous and the door should stay white. If they are the white plastic on top of the glass you need to sand them lightly and use a special primer made for plastic (Sherwin Williams has one) then paint it black to match the door.

black and white can be snappy. what color is the main body of your house? black and white can go pretty much anywhere...just trying to help you out!
