Just when I think that spring is here to stay, it is Summer!! Oh my! I need to get those veggie plants in the ground already. I am Late!! he he. The fun Gardening season begins in earnest!!

Be careful! Saturday the high for me is supposed to be 81. Thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday a low of 38. It’s crazy.

I sowed first corn and beans yesterday. Stuff I planted in late Feb is only just now starting to really grow (peas, broccoli, beets, carrots, lettuce)

Fingers crossed. There is a frost advisory for tonight. I really, really hope it doesn’t.

Should have crossed my toes, too. 27.7 degrees.

The cold weather surely is enjoying Southern Hospitality too much!! May be it is time to let it know, to make way for spring already, or summer will be hear before spring gets a chance!! LOL!

Seriously I have been waiting to plant my veggies and still waiting!!

In our 13 years here, I have noticed several that went from winter to summer without much spring, but this one was just early and then back to winter or something. But it sure looks like spring today.

BTW sabji: I was able to roto-till my garden a couple weeks ago after things had dried out and then had time to get some seeds in the day before our most recent rains. Free watering, woo hoo! The free water made it difficult to get back in the plowed field until today and I got a few tomatoes and a few more seeds planted. It would be all planted if I hadn't recently had some surgery that has slowed me down. I just wanted to point out that the soil should be in good shape for you Raleigh, Durham folks.

I can't imagine another freeze. As I said above, I've been here 13 years. On all but one year, I know that there hasn't been a freeze after the 9th of April because I have relied on the Watt Quaralls Seed Co. that suggests Apr 10 for start date for many veggies. in the Piedmont (I have been late only for sogginess). On our second year here, we went to see The Biltmore Estate just after Apr20. All the spring flowers like the azaleas were wiped out from a freak freeze on Apr 17 leaving only a sign telling us that spring wasn't cooperating.

My weather app tells me that tomorrow, the low will be 41°F in Pittsboro and until the 30th, lows will not be below 47.

Safe day for me is supposed to be April 15. The one last Tuesday was the 17th I think. The last frost before that was March 24, so no wonder everything was so far along and froze off. A lot of my “baby” trees just got their leaves and they are gone now. Even though they are native here (hickory, sassafras, oak) I am a bit worried how they will do.

Having trouble with some of my trees, too. Every time I get ready for spring another system with cooler temps moves in. From the weather forecast it looks like this is the last cold blast. Fingers crossed!!
