I had one that went up and over a fence- the side that got blasted by hot sun was solid bloom. As you say,the blooms are so short and the "repeat" bloom is not as claimed...barely notice it. But,easy to grow,fast and pest free on average water. Good points!

I agree. They always look nice, and I've never had to worry about pests and diseases. Even the one in my side yard, which a neighbor's monster plant now shades so that it does not bloom, keeps it's spot because it is at least healthy foliage covering a block wall.

Mine is bloom now as well,not as pretty as yours,but getting there.Dh just bought ours last year..

The lavender-flowering shrub is Duranta erecta (Golden Dewdrop), a great, tough plant that is always in bloom here. The butterflies and hummingbirds both like it.

Huh,I dont think I've ever seen D.erecta. One to look for. Like a better Plumbago as it blooms all year just about.

The Durantas are fairly common at nurseries and Big Box stores here, and there are various cultivars. There is a white-flowering form, variegated offerings of white edged, or yellow edged leaves, and some with darker purple flowers with white edges as in the photo below. They are vigorous plants that can get quite tall (one of mine is 13'), but they take heavy pruning.
