If its Bluegrass, it will slowly creep back into the thin areas. You can speed up the process by raking out the dead stuff , mowing short, and fertilizing. All the dead grass and extra grass clippings, must be bagged or raked off the lawn. The idea is to create more light and air space close to the soil surface.
