Large shower or tub and shower?

We are remodeling our upstairs master bath in Texas. We almost never use the tub. There is a normal tub/shower in the kids bath down the hall. I want to have a walk in shower with a place to dry off and hang towels and wet swimsuits. However, I’m worried about not having a tub for resale. should we go with the bigger shower only or do a tub and shower?

The shower width would still only be about 40” and can’t be wider due to closet door. If going shower only route we would cut that window in half (this the foil testing) to have a space for hooks. Cost estimates Were very similar. It would not be a double shower because that just seems silly. We do not have space for both a larger shower and a tub even if it is a smaller tub.

I vote for a large shower, especially since you already have one bathtub. We never take baths at my house--only showers. I'm looking forward to the day that we can afford to get rid of the bathtub and have a large shower installed.

In our master we have a large shower only that could fit a bench to sit on. The other bathroom is a shower/tub combo. Others use the shower only. The bathtub is good when young children are home and need to be washed by an adult. Teen agers might enjoy a bathtub though.

becky, i did the same w/my remodel. never used a tub so decided to do a huge shower instead. if you click on my name and Bath Redo,,you can see it.

If you have a tub in another bathroom and wouldn't use it in the master than don't put one in.

That was actually hard for me to say because I'll take a bath at least 5x week. It feels so good to soak while reading a good book and occasionally enjoying a drink with it.

Large shower! We removed tub, built a larger shower, and added some additional storage — no regrets!

We Took out the tub . No regrets either. I love the bigger shower . It is simply much more practical in today's world

I would do a larger shower (although your inspiration shower looks like it would get really cold to me). Plus, trying to wedge a freestanding tub in the existing tub space would be difficult and a nightmare to clean.

I agree with Ruth Ann Widner, yes use a LARGER shower and add storage.

Draw the bath. There is a whole lot of opinion here, for what may not even work Draw a dimensioned plan as the bath exists. With adjoining spaces.

Yes a shower is better than a tub you don't use. I see a door.... a window. Draw the bath please? Rather than pointing and shooting at fish in a barrel?

I did the master bath Reno in 2015. Go for the shower. As long as you have one bathroom with a tub you will be fine at resell time. Very common now to only have shower in master.

Large shower! Tubs rarely get used...at least I have used mine about 3 times in the last 17 years. Sounded great at the planning stage but.....

If you are looking at the resale side of things, tubs are quickly falling off peoples must have lists, a big glorious shower impresses anyone! Just ask yourself how often you would actually use the tub.

just a shower, but it has to be a magnificent shower to win over buyers who still sorta wanted a tub.

ours is 5 x 8' and yes its great to hang our just rinsed swim suits in as well.

With everyone's fast passed lifestyle I think people just don't have time any more to relax in a tub. The time they do have to relax is spent in other relaxing activities.
