Kitchen Remodel

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi guys, so we bought this house a few years ago and it had such an odd, small and frankly unsatisfactory kitchen for the kind of house it is so we decided to bite the bullet and make the changes we wanted to. So we made the kitchen bigger and completely changed it all. I'm just curious what you guys thing of the changes we made, Thanks!

So this is how the kitchen was when we bought the place, it had a gas fisher and paykel cooktop in the island that can't be seen in this picture.

These pictures above are the finished product, nothing from the old kitchen remains. Anyway, what do you guys think? P.S sorry about the mess but I can't say that its ever very tidy unfortunately.

Alright so hopefully this helps you a bit, its a bad picture I know but its the best one I could find, So the sink is in the same place in the picture as the sink is now, the door you see is a corner pantry and the oven and microwave in this picture are on the same wall as the ovens in the new kitchen. Does this help a little bit?

I like the cabinets in the old one better. I think they went with the floors better and look more high end.

Your current kitchen is still lovely overall. The chair wood and style however doesn't work for me.

I do prefer your new countertops in comparison to the old ones.

Also, i am a bit confused, is the top photo your new kitchen or the bottom ones? In my previous comment I based it on the top photo being the old kitchen, and the bottom photos being the new one.

I think the update looks good. I love the new cabinets and the wall tiles used throughout the space, And let's not forget the kitchen island colour.. so gorgeous! Nicely done.

The new kitchen looks beautiful! Could you please post some more information about your selections (the cabinets, backsplash, appliances, etc)? Congratulations on the gorgeous new kitchen!

Hi there cyc2001, my uncle did the renovations on our house so his company did all of the designing from the style to the materials. I can tell you we wanted to go for a relatively classic country look. We wanted this because it is an acreage house in the Canadian west so it couldn't look too shiny and modern like it did prior to renovation. The appliances we chose are electrolux models, an induction range, microwave-wall oven combination, fridge and freezer slide in units and a warmer drawer. Originally we wanted to go with a gas stove but we heard such good things about induction that it seemed like a good bet. The hardware is a gold with the worn look we wanted, nothing too shiny because the appliances were supposed to pop a little bit in terms of their brightness. The subway tile was chosen for its classic and simple style. I think of it as elegantly simple! Everything except the apron sink was selected from Calgary retailers. Anything else you would like to know, just let me know!

Thanks , MAT! I hope you’re enjoying your beautiful kitchen. I’ll be interested to hear how you like the induction range. Like you, I’ve read so many good things about induction and am considering switching from gas to induction when my 12 year old range kicks the bucket.

@cyc2001 The induction has been very good so far, it can get full pots of water up to boiling temperature quite quickly, a similar speed to gas I believe and because it’s a flat top, it’s much easier to clean than a gas stove with all of its nooks and crannies that stuff seems to get in. I prefer the way gas stoves look but overall I am a big fan of my induction range!

The layout is 100% better. Great job and impressive! Sorry though, I would have gone for lighter-colored cabinets, especially in western Canada where the days are so short for a long period of time.
