What a pretty house! Any would look nice, but I vote for the 2.5” wood (or faux wood) blinds. White tho, not gray. Why gray? You want it to match your casing, not the paint. Also, white gives you a uniform look from the outside.

I have them and paid only a little more to have cordless (safer, looks nicer). I like that most of the time they are down, but only need to be tilted open or closed to control light, and it’s just a gentle push to put them up. It is possible to get them with remote controls also.

Love your beams! Swoon. And your light fixtures. So fun! What a fun home to decorate.

Whe I look at your home and current selections (huge caveat: not a pro) I see some farmhouse, some transitional, and a few modern elements.

I am in a phase right now of slightly disliking all blinds, but I think that’s a personal problem. :) love the idea of Roman shades, and tweed rattan sounds gorgeous, but not sure if the tweed rattan may read more coastal/transitional and less farmhouse? Do you have a picture of the tweed rattan ones you were looking at?

Similar concerns about woven wood, with your stated style and your space – also, I love the look of woven wood in certain spaces but it definitely can darken the space which is something to consider.

I can also imagine white Roman shades, in a sturdy almost duckcloth-y/ grain sack-y fabric.

Also . . .what are your thoughts about your dining room set? It’s what reads most transitional to me which you say is not the look you want. Just curious.

Go with white wood blinds or have you considered cafe style wood blinds or shutters? We have top down bottom up hunter Douglas shades (elan fabric in daisy white) and we love them for the privacy and the huge amount of light they let in. I would stay away from woven because it will make the space darker.

#4 says modern farmhouse to me. As for weird, if your street facing windows do not concern you for privacy issues and you love the windows bare then leave them bare. I have a large bay window in my dining room that faces the street and have left them bare for 32 years. Not only do I like the bare look from inside, but when I walk by, especially at night when the lights are on, I think what a lovely looking room and it makes me smile lol

I will notice one thing to piggyback on my one earlier commen: all your inspirations with the wooden woven shades, have a white cotton drapery that helps steer the look into cottage/farmhouse. IMO a sturdy white cotton fabric says ‘farmhouse’ more than just about anything else. Now I’ll shut up and (hopefully) let some real pros chime in!

Some plantation style white shutters would go really well with your modern farmhouse style and would let in a ton of light.

Our first choice was shutters, but we steered away because we would have to mount them outside the window frame to allow windows to tilt in, and I'm not sure I like the idea of that :/ And I was worried it would make the small room of windows feel closed in. The price was also super high for good shutters and hubby is liking the idea of being able to use the extra money elsewhere... lots to do with a new construction home (like get a new farmhouse table;) LOL!)

Your home is lovely! Have you made a decision?

I live in a city and our living room is right on the sidewalk. We keep our shades up most of the time because I love sunlight and seeing the activity on the street. It took us a long time to find the right solution - maybe a year or so. We finally got roller blinds. Nope, not the tacky vinyl ones of my childhood. We got custom roller blinds made of a white linen looking fabric with nice brass pull ring. It is safe for kids and pets. When they rolled up most of the way, the window almost looks like it has not treatment yet isn't completely naked. When they are down, they blend in perfectly with the paint and allow you to focus on the pretty frames around the window instead of on a bunch of fabric.

I'm no fan of roman shades, however, I can imagine well a slouchy, relaxed, white linen roman in your dining room. As for wood blinds, I've yet to see them, no matter how expensive and custom, where they don't just remind me of a cheap tiki hut or backyard patio privacy blind.

Your windows are lovely. I second the idea of roller blinds for the family room windows. We used them because we have a gorgeous rural view and I didn't want to block it or the windows themselves, but dislike the black holes at night. We don't have privacy issues really but I got solar shades so if I close them during the day to block light, we can still see through them.

I think your dining room calls for something more formal. I think roman shades would work, as would a number of other ideas already posted. If you can, try to smush in a sheer white curtain over them, as in your photo above. I have cordless romans from Pottery Barn and have been very pleased with them.

I have 2” white wood blinds that closely match the woodwork throughout my house. I don’t love them because they are the most gorgeous window treatment available. I like them because they work in my home. Privacy is not an issue for me. I need to manage light (sometimes intense) streaming in from every direction. I can tilt these blinds just enough to minimize blaring sun without completely blocking out views or feeling like I live in a box. When it is too hot or bright, I close them completely. Most of the time they are open (slats level with floor/ceiling) and I barely notice them. If I could find a better solution, I would try it. So far, this is best for my situation. I am looking forward to reading ideas from other contributors and seeing your ultimate decision.

This is is what I ended up doing in my kitchen window and bay windows (living room has top down bottom up hunter Douglas). Wood shade with navy ribbon and two flat romans in striped fabric. Our style is not exactly farmhouse but the kitchen kind of leans in that direction. Thought you may like the wood blinds with ribbons for some visual interest.

I agree that white cafe shutters or white cafe curtains would be perfect! Rebecca. I thought that I was the only one who dislikes blinds. I would go with either bare Windows; just curtains, or blinds and curtains.

I would be depressed if I had to look at those shades all day.. I want any shades to disappear during the day. How do you open the windows with those shades there?
