I LOVE it! Unfortunately I'm one planting zone too far north for azaleas. They are on the long list of things I would grow if I lived further south.

Sped, there are azaleas hardy to something like -40F, so there are most likely ones that will grow and bloom well for you. Check out Rhodora/Rhododendron canadens, Helsinki University, swamp azalea/ Rhododendron viscosum, and the Light series such as Rosy Light, Golden Loghts, and Northern Highlights. I grow all of those except Helsinki U and all are zone 4 rated. I don’t know about Helsinki U, but the rest are all deciduous.

Also, if you want some of my yellow and purple bearded iris that you admired a year or two ago (which now need dividing), send me a message from my Houzz page. They should be fully hardy for you.

U of Minnesota also developed the Northern Lights series of azalea/rhododendron. I believe this one in my back is from their series, but I can't be sure. They have several hardy to zone 4! Duh....just noticed I echoed NHBabs! Didn't read carefully enough. Anyway, photo below of one that I believe is hardy to zone 4.

Sped, Mt St Helens has a hardiness of 4 (yea!) according to Missouri Botanical website, and of 3 (yea yea!) according to gardenia.net.
