I was thinking to add 2 shelves on the right side of the sink above the backsplash

what did you have in mind to put on them? decor or useful?

its a great place to store drinking glasses and every day plates, you stand in one spot and load out of the dishwasher.

possibly coffee mugs and maybe some decor on top shelf

If you can't match the wood what about something in a metal that matches the hardware you already have in the kitchen?

....or even a framed piece of art or two ... I have framed botanical prints ( eggplant , figs, ) I took from an Italian calendar in my kitchen.

what a coffee nook look ok? do one shelf with picture above it or is that too much? I'm really struggling with this area.

Do two warm white painted floating shelves on the other side of the sink/light. Under the light hang a cute sign or some kitchen-friendly artwork of some sort. Looks great!

I really like what @groveraxle did with one long shelf the best, that's what I was thinking to suggest. I would maybe place some frequently used mugs or glasses on it and move your canisters up there too. I would add a small plant or maybe a leaning picture if you want to add something purely for decoration. Good luck!

I really like the floating shelf bordering the tile the best. The shelf brackets are too distracting.
