Housebound and can't garden!

My dog is recovering rather slowly after his surgery, and if I go out into the yard, he wants to follow, and then his incision starts bleeding again. The vet says another week of sedation and rest should make a huge difference, so until then I really can't do any gardening without my buddy padding alongside.

So while getting the mail, I checked in on the triangle of land between my neighbors garage and mine, where I have some of my citrus. And everything looked so happy I thought I would take some pics to share.

Thanks to being away from home due to a bereavement I have also not been able to keep up with the weeding and pruning and California poppies have sprouted everywhere! All around the citrus too! I will pull them out next week, but just wanted to explain why the citrus look like they are planted in a flower bed!

Thanks again for helping me get my lemons and limes to this happy state!

And an apple for a change of pace! It's also flowered so much for the first time, I really need to fertlize it more.

Invasion of the California poppies!

My neighbor's tidy line of roses and geraniums under the cypress in the distance, my scruffier end with the calamondin between the lavender and poppies.

Leave the poppies until the flowers are gone; and they will re-seed for next year. It is after all a wildflower; and because it is the State flower of California there may be some obscure statute about destroying them.

Oh, yes, I will pull them out after they are done blooming. But I can actually pick or uproot them as long as they are not on state or federal property, including medians, roadsides and so on. But in my yard, it's not illegal to pick or uproot them.

Awwww.... First thing that came to mind was to put your buddy in a wagon and roll him around with you when you go out but then he would probably want to get out, sniff the surroundings and catch up on the "pee-mail" and whatnot. :-D Hoping he recovers quickly!

Good idea jenny. Put puppy in a crate and set the crate on a wagon so both of you can get some fresh air.

Thanks, I'm hoping to see some healing over the next few days, and hopefully he can sit outside leashed to something. He's 65 pounds, and rather tall, and the incision is in a location that makes it bleed easily. But thank you all for your good wishes! I'll pass them on with some belly rubs!

Vladimir, what a sweet face Annie has! They do look alike!

In the interim, I'm browsing gardening catalogs :) But no, I'm not complaining, he's a darling and will soon be back to his bouncy self, fingers crossed!

Aw, I am so sorry you can not get into the garden and so beautiful anyways.

As for the cute pooch, I hope he get a speedy recovery. I'll bet he just loves being your shadow.

Aww, thanks, Mike, you are always so sweet! He does, even on sedation he wants to follow me around, so I got some mysteries from the library and am staying put on the couch as much as I can!

Maybe I'm weird...but those doggie toes are cute.

I remember when my boy was recovering (many years ago) . It was Feb. so I wasn't too busy in the garden. It was warm enough he wanted to sunbathe on the deck.
