First thought was ADG as I figured Home Depot would carry popular, widely available more common hosta, especially a hosta-of-the-year like ADG rather than something that else that wasn't readily available like Tenryu methinks; but what do I know about American Home Depot's nursery section anyway, lol? Looking at a fully leafed-out hosta makes me pine for my own...

I up-righted some of my pots minutes ago as they were laying in water, ugh.

That photo looks my ADG when I added it two seasons ago. I think ( perish the thought) it came from HD. Just sayin' nicholsworth.... you’re right for $2 it would come home with me too.

josephines..my ADGs aren't up to make a comparison..you're right that Home Depot is full of common hostas..this one caught my eye..I was excited to see the tag but the tag had no name..hope you get some sun to evaporate some of that water..

sherrygirl..I was HOPING Tenryu but if it's an ADG I can live with it :-) from what I remember my ADG's were a darker color but I could be wrong..

I got my Big Daddy at Home Depot, so, you never know...

don..impossible to pass up when you see an affordable hosta that you like isn't it?..I have some Blue Mouse Ears from Home Depot and so far so good..

You never know what it actually might be right now. But that is part of the fun, don't you think? For $2 I would have snatched it up too.

I think ADG too. And maybe it doesn't look like the one you have because it's been trying to grow in a little pot in what were probably poor growing conditions. Jammed up against a lot of other pots with little air movement and inadequate lighting. Good for you for rescuing it.

littlebug..how did you know?..it was on a lower shelf..buried in a sea of hostas and I only saw it because I bent over and took a good look..and as a "hosta person" my eye saw the leaves that were different than anything else on the shelf..was probably not sold because it was hidden..

Could also be Love Pat, that variety has recently come into widespread commercial production. I am not aware of Tenryu being in production for big box stores, but it it possible. LP looks quite a lot like ADG, but once it's mature it's possible to differentiate between the two varieties.

dhaven..Love Pat was mentioned in some of the posts that I read about ADG and Tenryu ..I'll look for Love Pat pics..it is what it is haha..it just seemed different from my ADGs and I wanted to try it..

Nicholsworth: Yep, if I see something at HD or Lowes at a good price, it's hard for me not to investigate (fully aware of possible obvious risks.) I have to say, it's WalMart hostas that I avoid like the plague. In 2012 I bought quite a few there that ended up being virused, and it left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I've seen a great many virused hostas at Lowes, have asked them to pull the plants, they did, then put them right back out again. Don't have a HD in the area, but suspect they are the same--many of these big box hostas come from a very limited number of producers.

don..most of the hostas at big box stores don't tempt me..the hostas on my wish list are not what they sell..I had one Gold Standard that had HVX..zkathy sent me 2 test strips and I tested it and the one next to it..the suspicious one tested positive and the neighbor plant was negative..there is still nothing in that spot and I watch the neighbor like a hawk..this new hosta looks healthy but I'll be keeping my eyes on it..

dhaven..I think? my one hosta with HVX came from HD..years ago (like 10) they had quart size plants cheap and I bought several Honey Bells and Gold Standards..it was just one Gold Standard that was infected..so far no others..

nicholsworth, I can understand that you want it to be Tenryu. I got one from my friend in Belgium. It is my second, the first one died when I used that bad soil in winter 2016.

Your hosta looks great and you were lucky to find it whatever it is...the round leaves look more like ADG or Love Pad...

Karin..it's obvious that I want it to be Tenryu isn't it?..lol..I love yours..several of you have said ADG and Love Pat..what can I say?..could be..one thing that I just read - the back of Tenryu's leaves has a "white coating"..I read this too late to check mine (dark and raining outside)..the backs of your leaves do look frosted..I scrolled up to my pic and I see a bit of the back..looks frosted..but maybe ADG and Love Pat are frosted too..came back to add this:checked pics..ADG and Love Pat look frosted on the back of the leaves too..

Maybe later in summer it is easier to decide which one it might be :-) It is definitely a 'Schnäppchen' as we say in german for this kind of bargain...

Not a bad name for a NOID. Reminds me that I wanted to look for my 'Schätzchen' (sweetheart), one of those from my Chiemsee dealer. With all those pots it is not easy to be up to date...The day starts with fog and I will go on my garden round now and then it's off to work...The hosta will like that weather, it had been too hot for them last week.

it FINALLY looks like spring here..we have a day of rain tomorrow..then some nice days at the end of the week..maybe I can get some good pics..hard to believe that it's too hot in Germany in April when we had freezes!..I would prefer warm temperatures like yours :-)

An ADG for 2USD is not bad either. Mine is going into it's fourth year and the shoots look much bigger than last spring. I had to put it in a pot because we had removed some big branches and it will not go back to it's old place. It collected all the tree debris with its cupped and puckered leaves and always looked dirty...Now I'm hoping to see improvement in size and look :-) It was among my first few named hosta which I ordered and compared with the others it is doing very vell, never made problems...my small 2015 hosta list...:-)Abiqua Drinking GourdEmpress WuHi Ho SilverLongipes Aurea Ogon AmagiNight before ChristmasPraying HandsTorchlight

Nicholsworth, you should definitely make a plant tag for it that says "Schnäppchen". I think that's a wonderful idea. I have a plant tag on one of mine that says "Hosta 'Estate Sale'" because that's where I got it. I have no idea what it is, but that's what it is now!

you're a good hosta record keeper!..I don't know what I planted in 2015..Longipes Aurea and Empress Wu are beautiful..the yellow leaves in the spring are so pretty..

Started to keep records when I bought the first named ones. The years before I had only Noids from my old hosta friend and it took long to find out their names. The cats and birds had a lot of fun with my name tags this winter and now I'm glad that I have pictures to locate the places where I put them :-) I need to buy more of the long metal name plates, they are not so easy to play with but expensive :-( A friend showed a picture where a few of those white plastic tags were used by a bird to built it's nest...
