They don't survive a zone 8 winter...but since they are so easy to sow every year, it is no big chore. Have you looked at some of the other Cape flora- dimorpotheca, ursinia, felicia, gazania, heliophila., berkheya..and the graceful annual pale blue arctotis grandis. A lovely spectacle - a mini Namaqualand plantation.? Maybe have a look at PlantzAfrica for information.

I'm a huge fan of ornamentals from the Cape. But I really especially love the humble annual white Cape daisy. I just think it looks so chic with the black and orange center and bright white petals. So just to clarify: the seeds won't survive the winter? I know the plants don't.

Nope. They are programmed to leap into action at the first drops of rain...so they attempt to germinate and inevitably freeze and die. This has been my experience with nearly all of these little plants apart from nemesias which will cheerfully continue an endless cycle of seeding, sprouting and growing all winter and spring. So easy to poke a few seeds in the ground in April, I do at least a couple every year.

Actually, in a mild year, tender evergreen daisies such as arctotis or gazania or some of the diascias can straggle through winter in a sheltered garden...but seedlings, no.
