I have to order my Lacanche stove and need to decide on the capri blue or black. My kitchen will be white shaker, oiled soapstone and appliances will be cabinet doors. The floor will be black walnut natural.

Beautiful. Ask your self these questions - Are you likely to change your mind after the stove is in place, how committed are you to the blue - favorite color or fad for you, will it be a problem if you want to change your overall color scheme.

For me, I would get the black for my home because I would not be replacing it and I do like to change my colors. I would do the blue in my imaginary house in the Hamptons. :-)

Oh my someone tell me what do do LOL

    Black.

What is that, six for black? Go order. What else can we have you buy? LOL!

Well, I love the blue. Either will be smashing.

If I were you I would ask myself, "have I loved turquoise for more that five years? More than ten? Twenty?" because this is more than likely a one-time purchase, right? And turquoise has been such a hot colour the last few years so I would want to be sure I'm choosing it because I have a life-long love of it and not because it looks so great in pictures of well-designed homes at the moment. I would want to try to evaluate whether or not I am likely to fall out of love with the colour eventually.

I went through an orange stage. It only lasted for a few years. Thankfully the only remnants of it are some painted stools (need to get those redone... ) and a tablecloth. On the other hand, I have had a lifelong love of turquoise as a colour and as a gem stone, so I doubt I will ever tire of it. Where do you come out?

Blue is not a favorite color and what brought on blue is the beautiful Christmas gift (painting from my son). I have always had black and white in my homes for 50 years. This stove will be forever for me I am 72 and do not plan on moving. This is a new construction that my son (contractor) is building, I have been in my current home 35 years and this is in the same neighborhood just around the corner. Im seriously considering a turquoise velvet sofa for family room LOL, living and dining will be black and white.

I do love turquoise but not other blues so much

Black. Purchase accessories to coordinate with the sofa.

    Black hood also?

I have a favorite color, but surprisingly it isn't featured anywhere in our house. On the other hand, most rooms have a least one bold color (turquoise, navy blue, firetruck red, blackberry purple, ...). I don't think I'll get tired of these colors, because they are never the dominant color of the room. They're just the small eye catching detail that takes the room from being sterile and neutral to having individuality.

On other hand, I don't plan on ever selling my place, so I can afford being more bold. I don't need to worry about insulting potential buyers.

So, my vote goes for blue. But I can settle for black. It's inoffensive and makes for a classic look

I like the black hood too.

Twenty years down the line black will still be chic but turquoise might be a what were they thinking color...so with the black and accent with any color you desire in art, towels, flowers, window treatments....all cheap to change on a whim, but that stove if forever.....really gorgeous.

If the design choice is good for 20 years, IMHO that's fine. Most appliances don't live that long, so another kitchen remodel might be in order around that time anyway.

This is a fancy stove. So, it could be the exception to the rule and survive for 20+ years. But so much will happen in that time. I wouldn't worry about it. People still cherish their crazy looking ancient appliances, and keep them as beautiful accents.

And as Claire said, at 72 years of age, she has the luxury of not needing to worry about the design sensibilities of any future owners.

Make this about you! Buy what you love (if that means black, then great; but don't pick black just because it's safe). Don't worry about hypotheticals

    Black

Claire, I vote black. You don't seem to be attracted to that shade of blue, and this is your forever house. Bring in that color as you're planning- sofas etc- and let the stove sing with function. BTW- Color ME jealous that your son is a contractor. What I wouldn't give for that!

I’d be very tempted to go with blue myself, but black makes more sense. If you’re not in love with the blue color, definitely go with the black. You can add accessories that bring out the blue in the painting. Dishes and vases in that color would be a great.

Yes, I think if you loved the blue enough to live with it for the rest of your life, you wouldn't have any hesitation.

I was in the blue camp until I read your explanation. I LOVE the painting and love that the blue comes out of there. But you also said you have always had a black and white kitchen. Do you WANT a change?

Here's how to decide - flip a coin. If the answer makes you unhappy, choose the other one - if the answer makes you happy, you know that is what you really wanted all the time.

Thanks all for your input, you would think I would be more decisive as I was a contractor like my son in a previous life. The stove and hood are my only decisions I am finding very hard.

It makes sense; it's a big investment and the statement piece of the room, possibly of the house! Of course you want to be absolutely sure :)

Black! You can bring turquoise in with other elements... i love the black stove and black hood. So stunning and elegant.
Flip a coin- heads is blue and tails is black... when the coin is in the air be honest... are you rooting for one or the other even slightly??

    Another vote for black.

Even though my decor is very neutral ( taupes, creams, blacks, deep red in art, etc ) in your house I would go for something fun & the blue is fun & since this is for YOU, go a little wild ... why not? It’s time to shake things up a little ... I’m not your age but I decided to buy myself a sports car just for fun a few years ago , never looked back! No one else can make this decision, it IS an appliance after all, it’s not like you’re deciding on which house to buy or if you should marry someone.

I have a black Lacanche with a brightly back painted backsplash. Here is a pic if it helps. Click on the picture for a much better look. I am not home this week, so I can't show you a better pic.

    well,,here is a black/black hood/ and a dark counter.

this is what yours would look like,,,more or less.

and I imposed the blue one over it so you can see how it looks,,,I left the hood

and one w/the white hood,,,i like the white better

I was going to comments blue...because it would be a fun pop of color! BUT reading that the color was inspired by the photo your son purchased, I would say black. Then you can do the teal for plates, but can still change them out based on seasons :) Do the teal/blue sofa though, and replace that in 5-15 years when you get tired of it!

A painting you love, love it for the art it represents and the gift you received. Art does not need be matched to a sofa, cabinets, or your stove or dishes for that matter. That's what decorators do. :)) Art stands by itself for what it is.

Thinking about the painting specifically, I think the range in blue would overwhelm the blue in the picture.

Blue is one of my favourite colours but I vote black. Let your painting be the star.

I think you already know what you want. It is making a commitment to the choice that has you stumped. You want to pay homage to your son's art, is this why the turquoise color? This is very difficult but dig deep and think about what color makes you happy. Ignore the gorgeous painting from your son and think about why you are even thinking about the blue.... You said you ALWAYS decorate with black and white. Don't think about the future. Who cares in 20- 30 years what color you have, live for today. What color do you like today? Is it the blue?

Whatever you decide it is going to be amazing! I look forward to seeing your kitchen as I think it will be a beautiful statement to all that you love.

Black hands down. I have stove envy! Beautiful!

    Black is timeless
Don't care for the blue at all. It ruins the elegance of the kitchen and it un balances the other elements as it takes over the kitchen. The stove is a fortune but it looks cheap in the blue. Love the black with the white hood and brass fittings on the stove! That stove is pure elegance, and shouldn't
be turquoise. Black, gunmetal or navy maybe, but not bright turquoise.

I would get that blue in a heartbeat. I love it and that painting! But it sounds like you’re leaning towards the black and that will be beautiful as well.

    hello Claire,,,,you coming back??

Hi all and thank you, I think I will order the black. I will do it today because these take 6 months to get. My house will probably be done before that, my son is bugging me for exterior color and I'm trying to decide on a nice white for the formal living room walls. I better get out the color fans so I can get some samples.

Great choice! I looked for you here searching for the stove in turquoise, and in every case seeing it installed I felt it ruined the aesthetic of the kitchen. Are you going with the brass fittings?

Yes brass and brass on the hood

Should I do brass cabinet knobs? I have already ordered polished chrome faucet. Also with inset doors wondering if I should do hinges showing on the outside or if that is to busy.

I think no visible hinges. I am in the same boat regarding knobs (I have a Sully in French Blue ordered.) I *think* I am leaning towards chrome knobs and faucets. I think it lets the beautiful range with brass be the star of the kitchen.

Probably right lorilou72 as I will have brass on the hood as well. Anyone got a beautiful white they want to share must be a white white

I have made a sample boards of BM Chantilly Lace, BM White Dove, BM Simply White, and BM Decorator's White. I am loving Chantilly Lace. It seems to be a nice white white, but not stark.

I agree with lorilou72 :) I like silver or black toned knobs (including ORB) on white. I love brass on dark.

My vote is that brass everywhere will be too much--and I love mixing metals. What are you planning for your kitchen light fixtures? Maybe match the cabinet knobs to that? I also vote NO hinges. I do think that will be too busy, and detract from your stove.

thanks lorilou72 I am going to try the Chantily Lace, the sample I have is to stark, my lights are gloss white, the photo is black but the ones I purchased are white. The large one is over my nook table withe the black chairs. Table to be determined I had thought of a tulip with black base and marble top?

Your lighting is gorgeous and really seals the deal for me that black was the way to go on the range. You must be so looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.
