Laundry Room Help

I am planning to update our laundry room. It is the only room in our house built in 1980 that hasn't been touched (don't judge), and it's just a "refresh" vs a remodel. We'll be redoing the floor (looking at marmoleum), painting, new cabinets, and replacing the garden window.

One question I have is how crazy can I go in here? It's a small room, ~7 ½' x 8 ½'. It's on the main floor, in the hallway that goes to the bedrooms. Our house is a daylight rancher, so unless we have family visiting, this room is usually closed when we have company.

I'd like to (perhaps) choose a bold color for either the floor or for paint. It seems like a pretty innocuous place to have some fun.

Here are some pics of the space:

The other question I had was how to preserve this part of the wall in there:

The first pic shows a closeup of the wall; the second is the other side of that wall.

This wall is where I have measured my kids, and then all 4 grandchildren as they have grown. I will continue to do this. The only thing I can come up with is to put some sort of frame around it-either just paint one, stencil it, or some kind of molding. Any other ideas? And would it be nuts to do something super colorful in there?

Thanks in advance.
