Sounds like it was pot bound. But if you separated out the other two, the root ball should be loosened up somewhat. I do not know the answer to your question but I think over the long term your plant will be better out of the pot and in the ground. In my opinion it would be worth sacrificing the blooms to get the plant in the ground and thriving. However it’s possible it would continue blooming. Gently tease the roots apart a little before planting, you might shade it for a few days if it’s going to be hot. Must be a pretty blossom because you are enjoying it very much!

No question is stupid. I understand your concern because I love hibiscus too. I agree that the teasing out of the first two probably loosened the soil in the larger one. I'd just carefully plant it as is in either the ground or a very large pot. Lucky you to have had multiple bushes in one pot; and that you were able to separate them and get them to grow successfully.

hope you enjoy your plants for many years to come. Around here I see some with whitefly, webbing. I think it can be washed off with a hose, not sure. Hope you don't have that on your hibiscus.

I had a white maple infested with white fly. Hadn't seen any since I cut it down. Thankfully.

Scale and mealy bugs are my main problem.

I found that spreading diatomaceous earth on the ground around the base of a plant keeps the ants from getting to the tree/plant to farm the aphids and scale. I even dusted the lower trunk of my Lemon tree with it and haven't seen either scale or aphids since.

While cleaning up the garden yesterday I discovered that the potted hibiscus I bought last year has 3 plants in the one pot. I will try your example of separating them into 3 new pots.

One died back a fair bit,but it will make it.

I got the last one in the ground,looks good so far.

The chickens use diatomaceous earth! Thanks for the idea,i will use it! Thanks Kate!
