I did have another idea on your Bergere chairs. If you could change the backs of the chairs with a fabric that has some texture and maybe print plus add a lumbar pillow in matching fabric to bring your color palette together. Here is photo to give you concept.

My initial thought about the TV was that it would go above the mantle. The installer told me he wouldn't do it because the stone is actually stone from the property. Dang.

This would work well if you end up with the sofa back to right wall and the two chairs with their backs to the dining area. It wouldn’t be very costly either!

If the TV is not a big function of the space I would place it in a gorgeous cabinet on the long wall opposite of where it is now...

Something like this Crate & Barrel piece.....than you could flank it with your two French arm chairs....put sofa on back wall add a comfy lounge chair with a ottoman and large coffee table with two ottomans on fireplace side....very open and functional...

Pretty close to scale your chairs might be to big to flank tv unit but could add two small accent chairs that you could pull into the space for more seating when entertaining...just playing around thought this was interesting..

This was pretty much my first suggestion but i would not do large hutch style unit. A console would be better and not add more visual weight to room and confuse the eye for a focal point. The stone fireplace is the focal point. Two cube seats plus two chairs and nice glass top coffee table will work beautifully.

The cabinet will look like a hutch that would not be considered the focal point..of course it could be a console but one of my No no’s unless no other option..... walking in and seeing the side of a TV..just takes away from the design...this layout allows a really nice traffic flow and when walking in a very open layout would be very nice.

So many options to hide TV....

Believe she mentioned that she would appreciate a recliner worked into the room.

The TV type enclosure might be OK, especially if that price is so right! Just don't let him hang it too high! That is the fundamental problem. It would be better than a hutch. You can also use plants to hide side views too and in your area, there are lots of ways to create some wood sculpture if that side view would bother you. Glad you like that idea for the chairs. Can you post a photo of the back of the chair and I can help you figure out the upholstery task. You might be able to tackle it yourself!

Worth reupholstering for sure

I am keeping the chairs. Here's the back. Really like the idea of re-upholstering the backs. The coffee table was what I was thinking of! And dining room chairs in buffalo check?

The chairs are a light, light grey. I love them but have always wanted to "color" them up!

The console table under the left window appears to be lower than the chest the tv is over now. If the tv is not wider than the tanker, it could work.

I think you have too many pillows on the sofa, and pillows don't stand up on leather.
Also, one thing I don't see is anything in patterned fabric other than a couple of the pillows. Do you have an oriental rug? If it is large enough, it would look in this room, and I would bet all your colors would be found in the rug. It would also add some color.

Wow Kate, you've been busy! I'm so impressed with you! I know once you find the right furniture arrangement, you'll be able to mark out which size rug to buy. Don't give up on fitting a recliner in there; I miss ours!

Have you tried the arrangement idea Flo and Julie posted yet? Putting the TV on the wall opposite where it is now? That might leave room for the recliner - it doesn't seem like one would fit comfortably in the corner by the fireplace. Although there are wall hugger types...

Do you have components for the TV, or is there only the TV and that's it? I'm asking because with no components (cable box, DVD player, receiver and surround sound system, Xbox, etc), you only need the TV on the wall and can design around it much differently (slimmer console or even no console).

Could move chairs

With no console: TV mounted on wall where it is now, couch centered opposite like you have in your latest picture. Chairs move in front of TV, facing the couch like I talked about earlier (TV can be seen above the chairs). That leaves room for a nice cozy recliner and side table where the chairs vacated, angled towards the TV. (TV's higher on the wall than optimum can be viewed more comfortably from a reclined angle. Or TV can be tilted down for viewing from the couch. Or don't worry about it if not a big TV watcher, it doesn't look like it would have to change from what you're already used to.)

Have your carpenter build a frame for around the TV, so no ugly side view, which also dresses it up and makes it easy to integrate artwork around it if wanted. Here's an example of a framed TV with no furniture beneath it and art around it, so you can see what I mean:

Oh yes, you could redo the back of the chairs pretty easy with the right tools and fabric. Doing the piping is the hardest to get right. If you want a buffalo check, I would do it on an angle for the back of chairs and straight for lumbar pillows. I do like the chairs there and I would like to see the TV on the opposite wall and sofa on the long wall. Btw, you do have sliders right? If not, go get a package. They make moving furniture around a breeze. Make sure the package has ones for hard floors as well as carpet. When you select fabric, I would take darkest color and do your piping in the dark color. Black would be great!

As I looked around for fabrics, I got to thinking navy blues would work really well with your leather and wood tones. Better than black. Here are some fabrics to consider.

To inspire your vision for your room, here are some rooms that use leather similar to your and blues. So pretty and welcoming but chic too. The art could define your color palette. Of course, you have to love it too.

Black and brown are fabulous together...in a plaid it adds charm to a room...

it gives a crisp contrast ...I just love the combination together...if you want to add red it would look great!

I actually really like the chairs with backs to dining room and sofa facing TV...you could possible add a smaller recliner but it would have to angle into the room..

Klmoc. Are you leaning toward any special color palette? The art you had up had warm colors if i recall but more to an orange tone than red? Just wondering where you are colorwise.

Just found this image..you could pull in the black plaid in drapes...pillows...and just keep your gray chairs they really look beautiful with your fireplace stone color...add color with new rug...just thinking out loud!:))

Felizlady, the piece the tv is on now is, blush, a dresser and was supposed to be temporary. Unfortunately, the tv involves cables, cable box and cords for streaming devices so I do need a solid console.

Too many pillows, yep. I was thinking of an area rug in reds, but not as red as the current one.

Gwen, I really would like a recliner. Nerdy maybe but what what a great reading chair. I would like a smaller one.

Flo, are sliders the best thing ever!? I am so thankful for them. I can't lift some of the pieces enough to get a slider under so I have to wait for Furniture Monkey to come over. Love the Ikat fabric! I think I've found some art that will go better in the room and I'll post it soon for an opinion.

What is the brand of your sofa....I would try to get matching recliner or comfy club chair....

I know Kate indicated she really loved the black buffalo check on her chairs but I’d like to offer some advice from many years of experience and also making some mistakes. ;-). When you choose such a statement fabric for your larger more permanent pieces, you are COMMITTED. When you tire of it, it’s a big expense to change. And I also really like Flo’s suggestion of using navy instead of black which will really compliment all your wood tones. This fabric was suggested to update your chairs on the back with a lumbar pillow in the same fabric. I would suggest as HIWE suggested that navy (instead of black) buffalo check drapes would look great with this fabric. This way, you get a lot of great pattern and interest but in a way that is easily changed down the road if you want to make changes.
Just some food for thought.

Buffalo plaid makes a statement no matter where you put it....on chairs it is fabulous and fun..a large buffalo plaid allows you to mix other smaller prints with it and looks very charming and inviting....these chairs were on the way out! Make them fun enjoy them.....
