ALL hosta releaf ... and i had one horrible spring.. when they had to releaf TWICE ... and that was the year before the national came to my garden .... some came back a bit smaller the year after ... but nothing died outright ... and i am not talking about pots ...

JUST LEAVE IT ALONE ... leave all the mush there.. until it dries and crumbles off ...even a bare celery stalk.. can process sun ....

Thank you for your advice. I can see how the difference in zones and soil temperature would affect the timing of fertilizer application. I think I will at least offer it some phosphorus in mid summer, as my soil is low in that element. I am really glad to hear that your hostas came back twice in one season.

I've been hit by devastating hail in early May which rendered my hostas nothing but shredded lettuce. I gave them a drink of diluted kelp in a hose-end sprayer and left them alone. They come back. Never as glorious as they would have been without having to start all over again, but they did.

I'm sorry your Blue Ivory is mush. If it's any consolation I covered my Stained Glass religiously but they missed the forecast one night, and poof. Mush.

Sorry to hear about your Blue Ivory. That's one I like, too. I hope yours won't be set back too much because they're slow growers to begin with.

'Blue Ivory' has been an utter failure for me. I've had it since 2010 and it has managed to grow to a whopping 2 shoots this spring, well WHOOPDEEDO!

Just got a Blue Ivory last week at a nursery--I couldn't resist. It is simply a stunning plant. So sorry that yours got hit by the cold. All of my new plants went inside this weekend when it got down to 30 F--but this week I am expecting temperatures in the high 70's so maybe spring is finally on its way.

No, I am in a Cleveland suburb. Indianapolis is way warmer than we are normally. It's not unusual for you to be about 2 weeks ahead of us. You are just across I-70 from Columbus. Our hostas are just beginning to "peek out" over the top of the soil. Most are still underground. However, it was 81 today when I went to the store. My dog was huffing and puffing on her walk.

Your weather sounds exactly like ours, in the North Carolina mountains. The last two days have been fabulous. Pieter, I can understand your dissatisfaction with your Blue Ivory. Two pips after 8 years.

miles..ok..my hostas are ahead of yours but several times our weather was similar and I wondered..today was like summer!..
