Don't know that there's any single best way to prop. Hoyas.

Indoors, outdoors, one's conditions, etc., these factors all have influence. I grow indoors only & root some Hoyas from cuttings which I root in water. Others I can root in my porous, pumice based mix. I may try rooting in moist perlite soon too.

North East PA- My conditions indoors would be on the dimmer side and cooler side.

The plant I want to propagate is 25 years old and has very long peduncle that I am loth to trim as it is even flowering now. But I would like to have a second one. I'll take a picture in the near future (old school: ancient camera where I have to pull the memory card out....) Hoya is just a plant I have ( I have 2 standard carnosa types in addition to the unidentified one I want to propagate). One could say I m a hoya novice.

Fred, I propagate right into my soil mixture of coir and perlite. I water it and then put the pot in a ziplock bag to get a greenhouse effect. I put it in a bright window or under a plant light. If it is a carnosa type, I root in water. If it is an easy rooter, I will snip a piece and just stick it in the pot to make the pot full. It all depends on what you are rooting. Some are much easier than others.

If it's a big plant I would take 2-3 cuttings and experiment with different media a bit. Lately I tried putting cuttings in water and they all rooted in 2-3 weeks. I know that the water roots are supposed to be different than soil roots but I didnt experience a set back when transfering them from water into soil.

+1 for the greenhouse effect. I use transparent plastic boxes with a lid and add some extra light and they seem to like it very much.
