I saw this post a couple of weeks ago, and thought it was a great idea....not sure I interpreted it correctly, but I have been taking a two photos each day since then, one of the front gardens, and one of the west side of the house. And I've thought at some point after this garden season, I can assemble them in a time-lapsed progression video to see how they change over time! I'm really excited about it!

Sounds like fun! I'm a little afraid of showing your discerning eyes far views of these two particular beds which are a bit of a mess, but they are interesting in how much they change through the season. I wish I had done this earlier, when the azaleas were in bloom- first the purples, then the pinks, the whites, and then finished off by the reds.

I’m making slow progress on the new gardens around our new deck. Got the veggie boxes sorted and started on the gravel paths. Deck railings hopefully getting finished this weekend.

Today I started planting the bed at the bottom of the deck stairs with new plants and plants moved from other parts of the yard.

Yard is still a mess! I’m distracting myself with pots for the deck for instant gratification. Lol

What only 16 days (with good rain) can do...Amazes me!

Sadly, the peony in the front is STILL not going to bloom this year. It budded, which I guess is progress, but the buds stopped developing about 10 days ago. The peonies down by the mailbox look great, though.

Hi! Things have greened up a lot recently, so I thought I'd post an update! :) Here's my first garden bed:

front of house, I planted this one over the week-end with Nepeta, Salvia, Daylily Siloam Peony Display (can't wait to see the flowers!) and Spireas (little princess and Gold flame):

And my last one is still a work in progress. I've moved the three amelanchier and 6 hydrangeas, and instead planted conifers. Once the bulbs are done flowering & foliage is spent, I'll put cardboard between plantings, redesign the border, mulch it and that'll be the end of it! :)

Love this thread. We continue to make progress on our deck build and new plantings. Deck skirting still not finished but I’m pleased with how the railings turned out. Still need to cut the posts down.

Still lots of space to fill in the new bed.

Loving seeing everyone's progressions here. I'm just going to re-post my original photo with two updates from this season and I think that'll probably be it for me since this bed really goes downhill (or at least becomes not very interesting) from here on out. GH, that's quite the progression. Amazing how things pop up so quickly especially those hosta and salvia!

If you look at the first and last pictures, that's really quite a lot of growth for just a bit over a month! Especially the peonies way down by the mailbox - a month ago, they were just starting to turn from little red shoots to green leaves.

I posted the phlox subulata earlier, my garden bed is in a bit of a lull at the moment. The baptisia, penstemon, tradescantia and lupine are blooming a bit but it looks mostly green. I wanted to divide the coneflowers near the porch and move them apart and closer to the street, but didnt really have time. That might have to wait until fall now.

There are too many really beautiful threads to comment on each, but I appreciate everybody's pictures. This is a FUN idea. I enjoy seeing the deck progress as well as the beautiful garden areas.

And, Garden-Ho, every time I cock my head reflexively to see your tilted pictures, I imagine you hanging out of a window to get a picture of that bed?!

I guess I can understand your perspective, I’m just so used to it.

The bed is sloped quite a bit, which makes if fun to plant in lol...not to mention cutting through all the Maple roots!

Here is a picture looking up from the bottom to give you an idea of the angle. The handrail of the stairs really shows how steep it is...

It’s hard to photograph from head on as the bed is so long it does not all fit. That’s why I have taken them from up on the porch.

My favorite is the shade bed. Looks at its best in May and June. The others I know need some color and work.

I was going to edit my post father up (April's photo) and add this picture (June), but it won't let me? I might should've picked another bed since moles are destroying this one. Argh! I'm having to overhaul my plan and go back to square one since they've killed so many perennials. I had hoped that once they grew and the annuals petered out, it'd be taking shape. Maybe next year...

I have moles, the tend to go around the plants thankfully, but still tear up the beds. Now chipmunks are another story.....They are the worst ever this year!!

This may be my last post seeing as Houzz has blocked most of the entry points into the gardenweb with their "Houzz Advice" pop-up screen. I was saving my progression photos for the end of year new thread, but I'll just post them here, as far as they have progressed. I will miss my friends and fellow gardeners. :-(

25 April 2018 - Daffodil foliage sprouting.

4 May 2018 - Yellow daffodils in full bloom.

14 May 2018 - Daffys going by and garden cleaned up a bit.

28 May 2018 - Purple is the color now. Aliums in the garden and a young lilac blooming up on the hillside.

6 June 2018 - Blue Siberian irises blooming. (The lawn is overgrown due to lawnmower guy being laid up from surgery. He now has the doctor's ok to mow, so this should soon look better.)

I'll insert two last pictures from previous years. This is early July, bee balm and daylilies blooming in pink and orange. Red, purple, and pink phlox is just around the corner.

And lastly, when snow falls, the only color comes from reflective plant stakes and the ring of bottles around the border.

It doesn't look like I can edit my earlier post in this thread which is strange. Anyway here is my garden. The first photo is from mid April of this year. Roses were just starting to leaf out and I had begun putting in a new bed as well as other changes. The second photo was taken last week at my gardens' peak. Most of the plants on the right side along the fence were existing. I am basically done working on the garden this year besides weeding of course.

That's a big difference! The cat is a great garden ornament.

Not a lot new to report. Still waiting for my DH to finish deck skirting but I started planting anyway. He’ll curse me trying to work around everything but...oh well! Lol

Today I planted my new Quicksilver rose, some delphiniums, Gaura and frosty curls carex. Tomorrow I’ll get the Rosa rugosa in along with another box shrub, some cleome and campanula glomerata. 0h and a clematis Montana I’ll probably regret planting here but I’m so enjoying the scent of another one I have I couldn’t resist. Hoping it will fill in and cover the skirting. Starting to look like a garden! The lawn still looks like hell but the grace is slowly filling in.

my gardens haven't really taken off how I thought they would this year. Lots of green, not so many flowers. I think my soil is far too alkaline (just bought tons of acidifier to gradually change the ph) or perhaps because everything is still really young.

And my new, unfinished project. I will actually move the 3 dwarf spruces and small yellow thujas, and reseed grass. There’s a lot of tree seedlings, wild raspberry and weeds peeking through the layers of cardboard and mulch, and I don’t want to deal with this anymore. It’s too time-consuming. Too bad, it would have looked great in 10 years!

They are filling in nicely, and that last one is a real bummer.

I have no doubts you’ll find the perfect spot for them :)

Since houzz won't let me put any more photos in this post, I think I'm done for the year. It's all over but the cutting back, anyway. It was a bad year for deer and a lot of plants got munched before they bloomed. With that and the endless cycle of rain and heat in our area, the garden wasn't looking it's best. But I still had bloom from March through at least November (assuming all the blooming plants don't suddenly die in the next four days) and that's not bad for a still novice gardener! I am excited for the thousand bulbs I planted in my little patch of woodland to come up next spring, and I know I will be digging and rearranging the front yard in the spring, too. I have really enjoyed everyone's progressions, and am very inspired to keep "biggering" my garden!

Hi Everyone, it's so, so cold isn't it? About time to look at last year's photos and remember the capability of that barren landscape outside.

I've been running around this year and not concentrating as much on the garden but I took a few pictures along the way.
