Memory foam is hot. We got rid of ours.

We did not like our memory foam bed. It was very hot for me. Not the back support we needed. Spent way too much money on it. Love my Sleep Number bed!

Read Consumer Reports' review of mattresses (and buying tips). You need data, not anecdotes from strangers.

We've had Tempur Pedic for about 10 years. It took some getting used to, but we're still fans.

I appreciated sleeplikethedead.com comparison of mattress types. When I was mattress shopping I found the options overwhelming. I appreciated reading about the pros and cons of each type before I went to a few stores to test drive some of the options. While laying on a mattress in a store isn't going to compare to actually living with a mattress for several years, I did find I had a strong like / dislike reaction to many. Ultimately I did not like the feel of a foam mattress and since we both sleep hot I felt like it was a bad choice for us. I ended up buying an Aireloom innerspring mattress and I absolutely love it. Good luck. Hope you find one that works well for you.

Hotels and professional vacation rentals tend to use firmer innerspring mattresses and sometimes put a softer mattress topper over the mattress. This gives a tad squishiness, but with a firm base. I did research on this for my vacation rentals and am going to purchase a two-sided firm mattress and use a one- or two-inch topper. This way, I get twice the wear out of the mattress because I can flip it over and put the topper on the second side. A lot of mattresses are one-sided and once you have a depression or wear, the mattress is done. No memory foam, too hot. I think the ideal mattress would have innersprings and latex layers. If I may say this without creating controversy, innerspring mattresses are better for "bedroom activities" than most foam mattresses. You want bounce! Sorry if I offended anyone.
