Hello balou79, I am just wondering, why you are looking for an architect that is not local?

The reason why I ask, is that although I have heard of both good and bad stories of people who have done that, a local pro is usually a much better idea for several reasons, one of them being that he/she would be more familiar with the local laws and ordinances, not to mention that a meeting on site is always recommended.

Now, if you are looking simply for an interior decorator/designer (meaning no structural changes needed) than a pro who is not local might work out. I would still say face to face is always best, but price may be quite different depending on their location.

Thank you for your advice I appreciate it. I can see your point about the Architect coming to see our home in person.
The only reason I'm looking elsewhere is because we live in a tiny town and the Architect here locally didn't exactly have a fire under his ass to get anything done in a timely manner.

I will take your advice and look to a neighboring town/city before I reach too far out of my area.
