Window and door trim

My house was built in 2011. We chose to go with MDF baseboards to save money since we were painting them anyway. I’ve noticed over the years that the caulk is cracking and the vertical boards are actually twisting causing them to slightly protruded in one side. We live in TN, with lots of sink holes around. I’m nervous my house is slowly sinking but my husband doesn’t seem too concerned. Is this movement in MDF from normal? The floors also have gaps between the hardwood floors and MDf baseboards. Some places seem to be getting worse but then again, it may be me going crazy. Thoughts?

This is an unfinished closet under the stairs, by the way. We didn’t take the time to make it look pretty.

Houses settle normally. That usually happens in the first 7-10 years. Added is the fact MDF is really just pressed paper and is easily warped/twisted as the house settles and affected by moisture(humidity) by swelling. It also does not hold nails well. Screws are better.

Sink holes will cause immediate problems if they affect the foundation. Not theb gradual ones you mentioned.

From the picture, it looks like the stud might have gone squirrely. Maybe happened not too long after the house was built and the framing was drying out & you're just now noticing it.
