I would surely keep it. Get a pair of chairs that coordinate and a colorful rug. Could you post pics of the room in which it will be used?

@tqtqbq, love those pictures. I agree, keep it and add some pillows in colors you like. What colors do you like? It looks like a well made sofa so I'd keep it since you say it's also comfortable. The problem with upholstered pieces today is that you won't find the quality comparable to this one unless you spend a lot of money and who has a lot of money to spend? The rug under the sofa looks sort of formal so you could do pillows that have fancy trim or interesting patterned fabric. Lots of ways to go with this sofa.

Open the seat cushions and make sure the filling still has life in it. If it is foam that is starting to get crusty, do further investigation of the entire sofa before keeping it.

It has nice fabric, and so at least it has that going for it. If it had a pattern, it would be questionable, but as it is, I think it looks very nice, especially if it is comfortable. I would try to make it work, providing you like it.

I think the house could be used in a very formal Hollywood Regency like style as you see in these photos. If you're not prepared to do something this formal it might be better to purchase a different sofa.

The real problem is that it's not old fashioned enough.

The fabric dates it. If you can use it properly, have it reupholstered.

I love curved sofas. I would definitely keep this one :)

Love the curved sofa and looks to be in excellent condition! Really would need to see picture of entire room before giving good advice. Many factors play into good design, such as room size, furnishings, window placement and window treatments, accessories, art, etc... Can you add more photos of room?

What do the legs look like? Can you remove the skirt?

I like it and agree with others that it depends what you put around it. Place it in the room and post an updated photo to get more feedback.

I'm with teeda, remove the skirt. That will make a big difference, but even if you don't, it looks like a keeper.

If you take off the box pleat skirt, then there is no reason to keep the sofa.

I wouldn't reupholster it unless it has any big obvious problems and do not remove the skirt. I see two people stretched out, each reading a book with their feet in the middle - a cat or a dog would make it even better!

I especially love the pic that tqtq posted with the dark blue walls. I think if you could live with dramatic, I'd look to using dark blue or charcoal/black with it, walls and/or pillows with a coordinating rug. I think going bold could neutralize some of the funk and make it look more current. It looks like a really nice piece.

With all the tufting, reupholstering will be very expensive. If you're not happy with the fabric, you'll probably be happier spending all that money on a quality new sofa. If the room above is still as per the photo, turn our rug to center on the fireplace (short side there) and put your sofa on the long side of it with a better view of the TV. You want about a foot of rug extending past the ends of the sofa and the edge of it under the front 1/3 of the sofa.

Looks like a good quality sofa with neutral fabric. Since you've said it's comfortable, I'd DEFINITELY keep it and use it just as it is. There are some good ideas on how to decorate in the above pics.

As soon as I saw your sofa, I thought exactly what Teeda said about removing the skirt. I think it is a pretty sofa. If the skirt can be removed without damaging it and the legs are finished wood, it could really update the look of it. I had to reupholster seating I had in my kitchen, because of wear. I had it done without the original skirt and exposed the wood legs and it looks so much more current in my opinion.

Too cool NOT to use.

If you do choose to reupholster, it isn't necessary to get all the tufting on this go-round. You could do a flat back, or four buttons above each cushion, or something cute and original like this:

Is there room for the sofa to the right of the fireplace, facing the TV?

The skirt is what I like least about it, but I do not think you can easily remove that. I would not reupholster it either, as that would cost as much as a new sofa, and I do like the fabric that it has on it.

If you put the sofa under the window to the right of the fireplace, does it extend too far into the adjacent room?

I'm thinking the sofa there, two chairs by the other window wall, and two chairs where the sofa is now. But without seeing the rest of the room I can't say if those last two chairs will work or not.

I would keep it and have a conversation with a local good upholsterer about removing the skirt., there’s enough fabric in the skirt to make a nice line of welting at the bottom.

Your couch reminds me of something Restoration Hardware would charge an arm and leg for. I'd keep it :)

I removed by skirt on my sofa and it looks cool.....try removing the back of the skirt first.....I also think if you keep it then invest in a pair of side chairs that have the curvy feel of the sofa to help with extra seating;

Your sofa reminds me of the Thomasville Contessa Humphry Bogart Collection Sofa they did a few years back. Although the top of that sofa was not wavy, but more of a arched center. I think the Bogart collection was extremely popular. The Bogart sofa was used as a banquette with dining table or as a sofa, etc.

I actually like your sofa just the way it is. I think with pillows, a great fur throw you might not even notice the undulating back.

But, if you want to find out what could be done to update the sofa, why not send some photos to an upholster that restyles furniture. Maybe the changes would only be minimal to make you love it. I like its box pleated skirt and would not remove it.

I've been to a few furniture stores this week and I can't really get what I want without spending a lot more than what I planned. I like the sofa and I find it really comfortable. I think I'm going to remove the recliner and try to find something with some curves to mimic the sofa. Also, I think some new end tables with a gold finish might look nice in the room.
