I only have Rainbow's End - not sure it survived the Vole invasion, and Ice Age Trail - I'm watching it closely but so far just pips. I had some nice streaks last year but had to take out one eye that was solid. I hear these streakers take a lot of selective pruning to keep the streaks going.

I have several streakers, mostly outside and only just starting to show.

The ones in the greenhouse are doing well, some purchased last year and some from the year before.

Wow, I love streaked hostas! I have Ice Age Trail, Gunther's Prize (bought late 2017) and Kaleidochrome. Dorset Clown and Confused Angel look wonderful.

Not quite there yet, but I remain hopeful. I figure the one in the upper left won't make it, but I'm not ready to give in yet.

Is Rainbow's End considered a streaker? I bought mine at Made in the Shade, and it's listed there as medio-variegated.

windymess I have seen 'Rainbow's End' listed as a streaker in places. Although the leaves come out looking somewhat streaked it is not a streaker in the typical sense but follows a more standard, stable variegation pattern. However, a beautiful and distinctive Hosta! Way back around 1990 give or take I was at a Hosta meet and the fellow I was with bought 'Sparkling Burgundy' there for $88. 'Sparkling Burgundy' is the all green parent of 'Rainbow's End'. SB was exciting at the time because it had a little red at the base of the petioles.

Beautiful hostas...I'm thinking that I need to grab my Visa card and head out for a road trip in search of some streakers!

Devon Smith gifted me with some of Doug Beilstein's streakers a few years back. Still in pip form but I have pics from previous years..

All these streakers are amazing but Cicely's Chiemsee Angel really stands out with that gorgeous colour and streaking! On wish list! Cicely, your Confused Angel is also the best I've seen. Mine succumbed this spring. :(.

Oil Paint, which wilted in the sun. We went from cold to almost 90 degrees, and the trees hadn't leafed out. The pole is for a beach umbrella.

I've been trying to grow Sheila Macqueen since 2014. The first one was solid green, not even close to correct. The supplier replaced it the next year and I had it potted the first year. It's been in the ground now two full years and doeis to sn't look too promising. The streaking seems to be gone and no increase in size.

Does anyone think there is any hope for it to ever come back a streaker or increase in size?

Once a streaker stabilizes that's usually the way it stays. I have a friend with a gone green Galaxy that has has the occasional slightly streaky eye, or I'd say never. Your stable SMcQ doesn't have much green, so it will be a slow grower.

Wow, MadPlanter you have a lot of wonderful streakers! Love them all, don't have any of them but that Galaxy's form really calls to me.

Jerry, that's a shame about Sheila McQueen (such beautiful and unusual to my eye streaking with those particular colours) and I can understand the disappointment you are feeling.

How I wish I had Sally and Bob. It was the first hosta I put on my wishlist, and it's been there ever since. Not available anywhere here.

That's outrageous!

I purchased Gunther's Prize last year it had streaks. This year it has a thin yellow line around the leaves--I gather that it has reverted and will never have streaks. My question is what would you expect the vendor (someone who is listed favorably by many of you) do for me?

Miles1062 that happens frequently with 'Gunther’s Prize', not the vendors fault since they sent you a nicely streaked plant when you received it last year. Streakers are, unfortunately, unstable, and 'Gunther's' is odd in that is always seems to revert to that edged version which has been called 'Gunther's Rim'. Although painful, I would maybe cut the top off (damage the central growing point) and encourage the dormant side buds to grow, you should get some proper 'Gunther's Prize' to regrow.

I won Just a Gigolo in the Hosta Library auction. The donor, who grows seedlings as a hobby informed me that it died. So I was given some choices and chose Confetti Cup. He sent me two plants. According to hosta data base, it is a very rare stricked breeder from Nancy Krul

None of the other streakers that I bought have reverted immediately--I didn' t pay $125 for an "annual". If this plant is so unstable then it should come with a warning that it may immediately revert. Not just one leaf but the entire plant.

I will wait and see what the vendor responds. Let me ask you this, if the vendor knows that his plant is reverting, is he still selling it to other people for a increased price this year?

If Gunther's Prize came with some green leaves with a yellow edge, you might be able to complain. If it came with streaked leaves, there's no way the vendor could have known it would stabilize. Well, stabilize immediately. Unfortunately Gunther's Prize turns into Gunther's Rim pretty regularly. It's not a reversion, just the stable form.

Are all the leaves Gunther's Rim, no streaking at all? Is there more than one eye? My G.P. put out a stabilizing eye it's second year. I took it off and replanted it. To my surprise, it went back to being streaked, and now looks better than the original plant.

Did you plant it in a fair amount of sun? Mine gets direct sun from mid afternoon to sunset.

Miles I understand your frustration, especially after paying that much. The good thing is the true ‘Gunther’s Prize’ in your plant is most likely not yet lost. It may shoot an eye up with the proper variegation but as I said above if it were mine I would try to encourage growth of side eyes now by damaging the current growing point. Here is my original GP today. It is huge as you can see from the pen and yup, an eye of GR there that I will need to chop out. Certainly a weird cultivar.

Delaware Donna I got a ‘Confetti Cup’ last year, I didn’t know a lot about it. Seems to have very good leaf substance!

I don't have Gunther's Prize, but if it were mine and looking stable, I'd cut it into as many eyes as I could and plant all of them. And hope for the best.
