Need help with Kitchen Cabinet paint

Hello!! we recently bought a house that has a nice size kitchen and family room with south facing windows. The kitchen cabinets are cream and look very yellow at certain times of the day. The island is painted a very light green and the baseboards and the stairs are pure white. We also have venetian gold granite. I would really like to brighten the space up and have it look more modern or transitional. Are there cabinet colors that anyone can recommend that would go with the dark granite? I would love to have a two toned kitchen and paint the island darker. We also have wood paneling and cabinets around the TV wall in the family room. I would love to paint it the same shade as the island, but I'm afraid with south facing windows, it might make the room darker. HELP PLEASE!!

You might want to cross post this in Home Decor and Kitchens as well. First, congrats on your home. I personally think the perimeter cabinet color is lovely. Painting them would be a bit of a shame unless the pics are not showing their true age and/or there is damage. I think the island painted a darker color pulled from the countertops would be lovely, however.

I think the whiter trim on the stairwell and baseboards is really throwing the cabinets off. If the trim was a similar creamy white rather than bright white, it would be better. And take it from me, painting trim is a lot easier than painting cabinets.

Having a competent kitchen cabinet pro to paint all of your perimeter cabinets and the family room will be costly (but just doing the island should be fairly reasonable -- less prep than the whole kitchen). If you do paint and choose a bright white, then your countertop will also look off. It is a slippery slope then.

The backsplash could be updated to a glossy tile. The tumbled Tuscan look here looks out of place with your desire for a more modern look.

I would also change the walls color in the family room rather than painting the built-ins. A larger, less ornate ceiling light in the family room would be look good as well.

Once you add counter stools, a rug in the family room, new lighting and your accessories/furniture and paint the walls, it will look fabulous.

I agree, it is a pretty color but I don’t like the creamy color with the white molding. I also don’t care for the creamy color in the TV insert with the gray blue color on the walls, if anything is at least just paint that white to start. It will pop better.

I am just going by what I see on my phone but to me, the main problem lies with with gray paint with purple undertones. It clashes with the floor, the cabinets, the granite and backsplash. Choosing a warmer neutral with really diminish how yellow you are seeing the cabinets.

Unless you are looking at a full counter/backsplash redo when you paint the cabinets, it would be easier to paint the perimeter walls.

It is a very pretty space.
