May 2018 Blooms

May is generally a good month for C&S flowers, as Spring merges into early Summer. Love to see whatever everyone has to show.

May I post a couple of my cacti in flower today?

Astrophytum capricorne - love the red throat on this

And a smaller plant Pelecyphora aselliformis

Ermione, yes, there are several seed pods. I hope to get some seeds and try to get own root plants. This one is grafted on a low stem.

Stefan, most heads are 2 cm or smaller, the central one is 2 cm one way, almost 3 the other. Maybe because it is grafted?

Good luck with those seeds.I have a few grafted plants myself, and I'm thinking of degrafting them.I prefer own roots plants, but some are difficult to find in a decent price.

Exactly. And I seem to remember reading that Blossfeldia is not easy to root, so I will leave this onea as is. I do have a Sulcorebutia rauschii waiting for roots.

myermike: I am so forgetful these days - I meant to add that I think D. placentiformis would require warmer winter temps, - say min 50f - in locations like yours where there isn’t much winter sun and many cold, wer days - and very careful watering - maybe occasional spraying only - just an abundance of caution in general during winter. I stage mine under shadecloth outdoors during our hot summer months.:

Well, my plumie that was battered by Irma still hasn't budded yet, but it is putting on lots of new leaves and even a couple of new branches. So there is good news on that front. Her baby, however, has decided to put on a little show!

Silly me - I noticed today that one of the sticks I put in this pot is upside down! I guess I'll flip it over and see what happens, but it has been there since last October! I'm not very observant!

Mike! Your Christen Aurea Variegata is gorgeous!! I absolutely LOVE it....where is the heart icon button when we need it, lol. I've never seen so many buds on one. I've been lucky to get one or two blooms at a time on my small plant. Earlier I noticed a few buds on my peach TC & a CC, which I found bizarre as other years they'd be done by Feb or March. The unpredictable weather continues.

Crenda, such a pretty plumeria! Hmmm.... maybe someday I'll try to grow those, I've always loved their blooms. Are they easy to care for or are fussy?

    Chamaelobivia ‘Rose Quartz’

I can’t take credit for any of these as the reason I bought it was because it was full of buds. I’m going to repot it after all the flowers are done.

Below is from the day I purchased on May 7.

These 2 below are from today. It’s been very cloudy so I don’t think they are all the way opened. The photos don't do them justice. The colors of the petals are red on the outer petal and iridescent hot pink on the inner petals with golden yellow stamens & pistils.

Hopefully I will be home to see some of them fully opened in better light as it was near dusk when I took these.
