Battery powered mower suggestions needed

I am thinking that a battery powered mower would be perfect for my yard but I am having trouble finding the best option. I have a very small yard and could almost get away with a push reel mower except that on one side there is a fairly steep bank. And, no, I am not planning on landscaping the bank with something that doesn't need mowing.

Given that, what I want most is the lightest mower possible. That means only Lithium batteries, and no self propel. Second to that is price. $400 is my max price but would really like to stay well under that. Yard is small so cutting width is not important, neither is battery life.

When I was a kid, there was a perfect mower but they don't make them any more. Remember the commercial Lawn Boy mower? 2 cycle, 3 wheel, push mowers with magnesium housing. Thy had lots of power, weighed 35 lbs. and were tough as nails.

Check out the Eco from the depot. It is the nicest I've seen.

I think you mean EGO not ECO. ECO are push reel mowers.

For me, weight is the primary factor, with $$$ a close second.

The 20" EGO comes in at 56lbs (without battery?? Why would you list weight without battery???) Current price is $400 at Depot.

So far I like the Ryobi 16". It comes in at 40lbs and $300.

The EGO would do my lawn faster but I am concerned about the slope. Anyone actually see the 16" Ryobi? Can't tell if it is junk that won't make it past the first season. One issue is that I have 3 evil black walnut trees around my yard. Impossible to remove them all so just have to mow over them but they are hard on mowers and probably harder on battery mowers.

brian, personally not into battery powered (lawn stuff), there are a lot of utube videos on battery mowers, look at the comments. these walnut trees? are you talking about mowing over suckers? that might have an effect on it's health. keep an eye out, you might stumble across 1 of those lawn boy's, solve all your problems.

Not suckers, but the walnuts themselves. Probably 200lbs of the darn things scattered everywhere. They are very hard. Sort of like mowing over golf balls.

Those lawn boys are now very rare because people used them. Mostly I see them for sale as non-working for parts.

hi, i just picked up my first lawn boy 2 stroke a couple day's ago, looking forward to trying to bring it back to life. big rock hard nuts i think would have an impact on a light weight mower, any mower, especially blades. might have to invest in a good rake and turn this into a 2 part job. from what i've seen and heard those old lawn boys where a durable machine. as a matter of fact, i responded to this ad, it's an hour out but looks like a fun project. emailed last night, haven't heard back from the poster, think it's gone? the 1 i picked up earlier is under "estate sale" a couple posts below.

We’ve had a Gardenia for about 10 years and it’s worked really well. We have a small city lot (50x100). I love how quiet it is and I can usually do two mowings on one battery before charging again. It’s light weight enough for me to easily lift it and lug around.

I took a peek at Craigslist and amazingly, there was a lawnboy for sale less than 20 miles away. Had to pay $150 but it is in fairly good condition.
