So you know how Ken is always saying that you can leave a hosta sitting unpotted on your driveway all season and it will be just fine? I proved him right! I had a bunch of hostas to give away last August, and I dug up them up and left them on my blacktopped driveway for pick up. The person never showed and I didn't get around to moving the hostas off the pavement. They sat there all fall, roots baking on the pavement, and were crispy and looked dead as a doornail by November. I tossed them in my leaf pile and figured they'd compost. Then yesterday, my husband sends me the following (I've been out of town this spring):
