Last season's basil self seeded, sprouting now!

I plant basil every year. Last season, as always, a few basil plants went to seed at the end of the season. Amazingly, I saw a basil seedling in the spot where they were last year. Has anyone ever had basil seeds overwinter in the ground, and then sprout the following spring?
