Which appliances??

Hello!

My husband and I are building a house and we are trying to decide which appliances to purchase. For the longest time we thought Viking suite but after lots of research that doesn’t sound like a good idea. We are planning on a 48” gas range double oven, range hood, dw, fridge, and microwave. Any advice would be wonderful. Pros and cons to going with a suite vs different brands. We have budgeted around $16k.

Thanks!

Kayla

You should look at Thermador's offerings, but if you are serious about your budget, as DRB477 said, 48" for the range is pretty unrealistic- and many would say un- necessary. Buying a suite of appliances is frowned upon here and Thermador, being Seimens in actuality, provides a pretty solid set of offerings across the board. The refrigerator is the same as Bosch, Miele, and Gagg's, basically. The DW is Bosch's, which is excellent and the range or cooktop/ovens is solid. There is nothing wrong with a 30 or 36" range and an extra wall oven or better yet get the smaller range and add a combo steam oven from Miele.

It might be worth looking at Bosch and Miele as well- though Miele is a poor choice for a range.

Thermador for full package. Miele for fridge, oven, dishwasher, some people report issues w/ their ranges but I think it's a bit overblown. Bosch for full package. Bluestar for gas ranges/ovens, and maybe fridge tho it's still new and unclear on reliability.

After a ton of research - I'm likely going with a Bosch/Miele dishwasher, Bluestar RCS or RNB gas range or rangetop, Bluestar hood, Miele or Thermador fridge. (tho may end up doing full Miele package based on my irrational emotions)

Steve, nothing too irrational about a full Miele package :-) I love everything I have of theirs (refrigerator, CSO, dw, washer/dryer.) And nobody complains about their ovens and induction cooktops- though if you are into gas, then Bluestar is the way to go.

yehhh, that's what i'm potentially "risking" doing.. getting the all gas range. i'm admittedly not a super experienced chef and the idea of having a lot of miele's help with programs, wireless thermometer, etc really is appealing. that and i honestly just like the looks of the matching set. that's the irrational part. when i saw all the appliances in person, i liked the build quality and finish of miele better than the others (thermador, blue star, viking, wolf, etc)

when i looked at the "issues" with the miele range - it seemed like it's really just sticking knobs, and flames taking a few more clicks to light. these seemed relatively minor to me. i also am hoping/praying that maybe they've made tweaks to address known issues. i know miele has generally great support so if i run into issues i feel confident they'll help resolve.

People mention Miele cooktops and Bosch ranges because they're induction, a good alternative to gas. If you're not familiar with induction read some comparative threads. It's the first choice of many here.
