Will this little green bug hurt my dahlia?

This little bug, or one like him, have been on This flower since it stared blooming several days ago. It doesn’t appear that he’s doing harm, but it could be going unseen. Tried to snap some decent pix to show what he looks like.

At first that looked like a small grasshopper which would munch on your dahlia, but I'm not sure. This may sound crazy but I sometimes just gently (using a cup) relocate certain insects to a different part of my yard. lol

By the way, that's a beautiful dahlia.

Looks like a baby preying mantis

He may be some sort of predator that hangs out on colorful flowers (where prey insects will flock to) to hunt them. He may be actually helping protect the plant.

Your insect is a katydid nymph; do an image search for this and note that the body shape, large hind legs, and long banded antennae are a match.
