Ceiling paint advice

We used Behr to paint our ceilings (ceiling paint ultra white) and different colors for the walls. The walls are fine, but I still see marks on the ceiling although I applied 2 coats. Is it the paint or my poor painting skills? And if it's the paint what other paint should I use?

    How old is your house?

Built in 1998, we had some issues with walls and ceilings cracking that were fixed and we repainted after that.

So after the repair did you prime the new drywall before painting

It was primed by the company who did the repairs.

Behr to paint our ceilings (ceiling paint ultra white).. Get a better brand of paint from a real paint store

What do you mean by marks? Usually, when a DIY'er paints a ceiling, they just don't put the paint on heavy enough and they end up with dead spots all over.

The problem is the Behr brand too. Never had good luck with that paint. Pay a little extra for Benjamin Moore. Well worth it.

Behr Ceiling Paint is "Ultra Pure White". Most other manufacturers would call this a "white tint base", meaning that there is no additional color in the paint other than the pure white titanium dioxide. Unfortunately, this does sacrifice some covering ability. Many manufacturers gray up their ceiling paints to assure better coverage. Against normal strong or dull colors, this presents no problem. However, against a pure, pastel color, grayed ceiling paint looks terrible! Behr also feels the pure white reflects more light around the room, while not affecting how the wall color appears.

A similar thing happens if you go to the paint store and buy trim paint that merely says "white" on the label. You can be assure that it is not pure white, but has been darkened somewhat with lamp back and or raw umber. Again, this assures better covering ability. However, if you put this against a pure, pastel pink or yellow color, it will look terrible.

why does everything need to be so complicated? We like the Behr ultra white just because it's so white, it provides a good contrast with our gray walls and matches our windows. Should I try a third coat?Is there another brand that has the same ceiling color? If you look at the third picture, the one with the ceiling light, that area came out much better and I don't understand why, because there is more light there so I should see misses better. Or maybe because it was the last one done my technique got better?

    Oana,

Are you using the Behr 558 Ceiling White? If so, you might like to try the Premium Plus Ultra, Ultra Pure white Ceiling Paint. This is a more premium ceiling white which will even hold up in a bath/shower environment. This is a no no for most ceiling whites. The Ultra Ceiling White has more white titanium pigment in it, and can even be tinted with Behr's normal color palette. The 558 Ceiling White does not accept Behr's normal color formulas.
