Any orchid in your possession for a few years has a story to tell and this plant is no exception. It moved to north FLA with my family and managed to stay alive through a couple of winters (hard freezes down to low 20's) whilst thrown under a big oak tree and a pile of leaf litter and minimal sunlight. No water except rain and no cold protection as I thought the plant had migrated to the big greenhouse in the sky. when I finally decided to go through the orchid scraps that made the move with me, I found it had a live bulb growing and a backbulb also still alive. The plant is still in the 12 inch clay pot that It matured in when in So Fla although most of canes had died. After I started to take care of it (and the rest of my orchid scraps) it started to grow and consequently it surprised me when I saw a few spikes. 2 of the three spikes are on the old cane.

This plant grew in full south florida sun... no issues and some of the bigger pants stayed in bloom or spike for 6 months. This makes up for the fairly short life of the flowers... about a week to 10 days....

The pot is filled with lava rock and whatever organics material has fallen into it in the past couple of years, it is due to be re potted when it finishes blooming and it already has a new cane growing.

I had 2 dozen of these pots and grew them as a hedge around my pool screen enclosure in So Fla.. may even have a picture of the hedge, gotta find it first.

This is a great plant, fast grower and has become fairly expensive. You may see a few of these at the redlands show in a few days.
