Plant options for Florida back yard

We'll have about 2 feet of planting area between the fence and deck. We purchased dwarf bananas and red leaf banana. Both are tip burning from the Florida sun and it's only May. West facing back yard with only one corner shaded from the neighbors trees. Any good tropical suggestions that can tolerate occasion overnight frost?

Go to the local garden center, i'm sure they will have lots of suggestions.

You're obviously further north than I am if you have frost, so I'm not sure to recommend specific plants. I would however either move the bananas or get rid of them. Unless they are a short ornamental type, they grow tall and always have leaves drying and drooping along the stem. The pots look pretty small too. A local garden center where the staff are knowledgeable would be a great asset.
