A massive amount of money can make anything happen. But you might as well light it on fire as to change a perfectly functional home just because you have a personal idiosyncrasy about stairs. You will never ever recoup that expenditure. People expect stairs to be functional and very few people have such a strong personal preference about their layout. Those that do have a strong preference just buy what they prefer, if they can afford to.

How about a larger first landing and having the stairs turn again along the stair wall. (Your register duct can be removed). It doesn't look like you have room to change them to straight out from that first landing, they will be longer than the length you have to the hall wall. My entry with stairs are like yours currently, though you have more room. I don't care for my entry at all!

So...we turned our stairs 90 degrees in our remodel. In fact, the stairs were what started the whole mess. Initially our stairs were right at the front door, there was a clearance of 1/16" inch. Yes, 1/16" when the door was opened. It was nuts. When we purchased the house we knew we were going to turn the staircase. There was a clear space for it to turn into. Major surgery. But it made an enormous difference....visually and functionally.
