Real Cherry wood Chestnut finish Vs. MDF Eggshell (very Light half white)

I'm fond of wood that has been stained or oiled, not painted. Very rarely do I like (or recommend) painted cabs.

MDF would be a total no-go for me. It absorbs water too easily, although I hear that's less of a concern, if properly painted. It's also not easy to repair/patch, so if you use your kitchen a lot, damage is something to think about. :-)

Single tone kitchen Vs. Two Tone ( Surrond cabinets in one color and island in contrasting color)

Love the wood tones , dare enough to try somethign new too. What's the best since I hear white trend is slowing down and Two tone is picking up .

What is your goal for your space? The answer to that will likely tell you which way to go, regarding trends. I don't think you can go wrong if you follow the "trend" set by the architectural style of your house. :-D

agree with cp,,,how in the world would we know? you haven't even posted pics of what you're considering, or what style home this will be in. we don't know what kind of flooring or countertop, how big the kitchen is, does it open to another room, lighting,,,etc

imagine if someone asked you if they should wear a white dress, a black dress, or a blue dress w/ white accents. that's it. wouldn't you want to see them? see the body they're going on, what event that body is going to???

ask 10 people what they like, and you'll prob get 10 diff answers.

There is "no best". forget trends,,,they change every few years. will you be living in this home for long time? if so, get what you like and what makes you happy.

At present short listed Cherry wood chestnut. stained raised style cabinets, Delicates ice granite, white subway tiles with copper coastal ascent row.
Good lighting, under cabinet lighting, big size island to seat 4-5 people.

I would do simlpe doors in walnut and have them all the same , I see no point in choosing a wood and then staining it to look like something else. I love walnut and whitekitchens in a contempoary setting but not that mix where the feel is more traditional.I think if a wood is very beautiful keeping the style simple will have a timeless look

Is the kitchen open to another room? If so, what will that other room look like? What will your furnishings in that room look like? What is your vision for the entire house?

Do you prefer a simpler style, or a more ornate one?

Which cabinet fronts would you rather clean regularly : ) ? I know I would choose the simpler one for this reason alone, and in my case also aesthetics.

If it helps, white will never slow down or go out of style or fashion. Two-tone has been popular for several years already so will be heading out of fashion before too long.

I chose a dark wood look Ikea cabinet for our kitchen in our new house because it's open to the living room and dining room, where I have other dark wood furniture, and wanted the kitchen to connect and flow well with the rooms to which it's open. I had originally wanted cream painted cabinets, but given the proximity to other rooms the difference in styles seemed to jarring to me.

Thanks Beckysharp, like your thoughts. yes it opens up to family room where dark leather sofas, back to dining where beautiful cherry dining set.

Thanks Patricia, Any wood stain choice will be cherry / maple wood if paint finish that's going to be MDF, so in two tone kitchen it's going to be cherry and MDF combination. Both I can get in Same Cabinet styles.

Those cabinets will be very hard to keep clean with all those groves etc. Go for a far simpler cabinet, either a plain Shaker or a slab. They also have a bit of a dated look to them.

with Delicatus, I'd do the white cabs, the top or middle wood floor choice, absolutely NO to that glass bar backsplash. No to the tannish ceramic subway. Put the backsplash on hold (do not do the 4" granite piece either) until after everything is installed. backsplash is the very last thing to go in, no need to make a choice at this time.

Alaska White granite is normally used w/white cabinets,,,maybe dark. I wouldn't care for this granite w/the cherry cab choice

I would advise you to look at your entire slab before choosing, as they can vary greatly.

Thank you Beth, yes I settling with white subway tiles backsplash , no more pale white. But why No for glass tile ascent row ? can you shed some light pin that thought ?
I May settle with first hard wood floor ( Gunstock) .
what other granite suggestions for Cherry cabinets ?

swarna, the countertop top you've chosen is rather busy looking. the glass bars are different sizes, different colors, also very busy looking. when you put two busy elements next to each other they fight for attention.

see how these fight? these are horrible together

only one gets to play the star, the other must be supporting actor.

if you want to do glass bars, make them all the same color. or close to same color

the other thing is, "wait until cabs/countertop are installed before picking a backsplash" Installation changes the way things look, your lighting will make a diff. it's better to wait and see how the countertop, cabs and flooring look together before throwing in another element. go ahead and have some samples ready, but don't decide yet.

Oh I loved the way you played with glass tiles, i hear you full of glass tiles will be too much , I hope you got it that's all / 5 rows of white subway white brick set up and 3 rows / (size if 1 subway tile size in width ) of crystal shores ascent row. will that be too much ? do you still suggest to take out the ascent row ? We thought it will pull the colors from cabinets and granite.

i gave you links to the glass bar tiles in two diff colors. I also gave you a link to the last glass tile, a 3x12. you can lay them like subway tiles or stack them evenly.

what do you think about Stainless steel Apron sink ?

if you want more of a modern type look, w/the glass bars,,,,it might look nice. make sure to get a heavy gauge SS. 14 or 16 gauge. costs more, not as noisy as the higher gauge.

I agree with Beth H. - NO to the accent row. Less is more :)

Swarna, please listen to your own heart and don't feel you need to do what anyone else tells you. I happen to like your last photo with the lighter floor, the dark stained cabinets and I'd use a granite with brown and white in it. I think you're on the right track and if you love it and if it goes with the rest of your house, it will stand the test of time.

Thanks Cpartist, Yes all these decisions we made with lots of thinking and digging through pictures online but before it actually built I am looking for any comments / suggestion to assure myselfwe are on right track , and minor changes if needed to make it perfect. I really love kitchen the most in the house and investing a lot so it's worth of people 's suggestions for me but yes ultimately I am going to take what it really makes sense to me.
No ascent tile is something looking like I may take out.
