Deer nibbling on apple trees

My parents have a property where we planted several apple trees last year (I don't remember what kinds they are). They're planted in very sandy soil in a full sun spot. They seem to be doing pretty well despite the terrible winter we've had, but the deer seem to be nibbling on them a bit. What's the best way to deal with this? I know a small amount of browsing is pretty much unavoidable, but I want to do what's necessary to make sure the trees are as healthy as possible. The property is surrounded by woods, so we have deer coming into the yard constantly.
