Not sure what is going on with this hosta

June fever has not made it's appearance this year. So I dug it up. The roots look good, maybe a little tangled with the aborivite it was planted next to. I could not see any pips on the root ball. This plant was new last year, but grew well. I replated the root ball in another spot away from the aborivite. Below is a picture of the root ball, it is right side in the picture.

I was going to suggest that you hose it off with a firm stream (thumb over the end of the hose to separate the hosta roots from other roots) but if you already replanted it then that is not an option. Hoping you planted it right at soil level barely covering the roots. There HAS to be a crown in there with some little buds (eyes).

Thank you Babka, maybe if I have a chance today I will dig it up and and clean it off. It wouldn't be hard to get to.

Arborvitae have surface roots that'll strangle your hostas eventually. The only thing I have found that gets around that is to plant the hostas in spin-out bags. I did that for the first time last year and judging by how the hostas are coming back now they're ready to shake my hand and thank me.

Thank you Pieter. I ended up moving the hosta. Hopefully the new spot will make the hosta happy.

Well, I dug up the hosta cleaned it and looked for eyes. I saw a couple tiny ones, one eye on top on one in the middle. So I separted the clump and replanted. Now I have two small June fever plants. I think Pieter you were right the aborvite was choking it. Thank you for your help.
