What color(s) are you using in the great room?

Here are 3 different shades of gray cabinets..

The walls are light maple colored. Wood ceiling. Furniture and rug are mixed beige and light gray with blue accents.

The house is modern rustic if that is a type. Built in the 70’s with lots of CA redwood.

Are you contemplating changing the lay-out slightly? Is your goal to get a larger fridge? Or are you sticking with the current size? What's to the right of the sink and DW?

I think you need to photo browse through Houzz and Pinterest. What is the style for the rest of your home? Traditional? Cottage? Modern? How do you want your kitchen to feel as it relates to the rest of your house? Do you have a fireplace in direct view of the kitchen?

Do you have a kitchen designer or are you in the gathering ideas stage? If your house is all CA redwood, it's unusual (and expensive to replicate anything) and you would probably benefit from an experienced local designer who can work with the strong coloration of the redwood. Fixing the split door could probably be done by a local cabinetmaker.

Do you have a budget range in mind already?

I am in the gathering ideas phase. We are sticking to the layout and footprint (which is small but works for us). A door to the outside is to the right of the sink and dishwasher. I don’t want to go wild with the budget but not cheapest either. The project started out to replace the aging and impossible to clean tile counters and install under mount sink. Then I thought, why not replace aging redwood cabinets. Which led to replacing aging appliances. I am looking for simplicity, durability and beauty. We live at the beach.

I have been thinking of some type of wood cabinets (natural cherry?), cambria Montgomery counters (to lighten up the counters) and something like heath subway tiles in fog blue for the backsplash.

I am also hoping to replace the broken door with a pocket door. It leads to laundry/pantry.

Thanks for info. I suggest a medium light finish on red birch cabinets. The warm tone of the red birch will coordinate with the redwood. Simple door styles, nothing fussy or beach-dust-collecting. The base cabinets can be all drawers for maximum storage. Look in your laundry area to see if more cabinets can be added for the things on top of your fridge.

For accent colors, take a look at your collected plates- bring some down off the wall for a good look.

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions!! I love them! Just what I needed to get started. My ideabook is filling up and I'm already getting a better sense of what I like. Btw, the floors are strand eucalyptus.
