What kind of winter did you have? Was there a drought last year? Have you mulched or top dressed the line of peonies? Are they in full sun?

Insufficient winter chilling, stress from the previous growing season, not enough sun, and planting too deep can all cause flowering difficulties.

It could also be a pathogen but other than powdery mildew, I've never seen an peony afflicted with anything.

The winter was drier than usual with no snow and cold ’snaps’ throughout with no hard freezing.

Planting too deeply, was not a problem. . . . old line of plants, have always bloomed. . . . .no mulching this OR ANY winter in past. Very green and ‘Happy’ now. . . . . just no blooms nor blossoms!

Not a question for a shrubs forum since peonies are perennials, but I'm guessing your peonies have botrytis.

Thank YOU for your comment. Will try to get pics on the forum but my peonies have no sign of this disease AND no rotting. The Plants erupted from the ground normally and have NO DISCOLORATIONS And no rotting at all. They are beautiful.. . . . . . just no flowers. Hope others see them as appropriate to this forum! healthy AND flowering for years.

There were multiple causes of aborted peony buds on that page...only one was a disease. The rest were environmental conditions. Since you've had flowers in previous years, you are probably looking at environmental stress of some kind unique to either this spring or during the last 8 months. Even if you are unable to specifically identify the cause(s), that doesn't really mean squat if the peonies were affected by it anyway.

There are very few things that causes peonies to stop flowering and the most likely ones BY FAR are listed in the MOBOT link.

Judy, I had the same problem three springs in a row -- my established peonies failed to bloom but were otherwise healthy. I later concluded it was a combination of late freezes, as well as lack of watering and fertilizing on my part. I kept hearing about peonies being tough plants and not needing much attention... Well, it's not the case with mine! Perhaps your soil is depleted and dry?

Last year, after another bloomless spring, I started to water and fertilize them on a regular basis. I scratched in lots of greensand and Gardentone around the dripline, and mulched with homemade compost. I repeated that in late summer with Bulbtone. I kept them watered throughout the summer (at least 1" per week). It seems to be working, finally!

Of course immediately after I took the pics, the blooms were destroyed in a big storm... :(
