Help with countertop choice

I thought I found the perfect slab of Taj Mahal quartzite for my countertops....until I got the price. 7,000, potentially12,000 if they have to use a second slab. Just for the permimiter tops! We are having a custom black walnut top made for the island. I saw a slab of coast green granite I liked. I'm scare I will tire of the green color and should go with something more neutral.

For something so expensive and permanent I would err on the side of neutral. Have you seen any white granites you like more similar to the Taj Mahal? I have seen houzz photos of supreme white, Everest, Alaskan white (more dramatic) that you may want to consider.

The cabinets are a cream color. I'd like to stay away from black because we'll have the solid wood island top. The ajacent room is browns, creams, greens. I'm also torn as to what color fixtures to use. Before the project even started I imagine bronze for knobs, faucets and light fixtures. Now that the appliances are in, I'm thinking leaning towards nickel. SO many choices!!

I think the Calcutta Oro marble is very beautiful but I think It's also very expensive. Everyone tries to talk me out of even considering marble.

I think you would end up paying potentially the most for the calacatta. Cararra is more reasonable. If you do look at marble try imperial Danby also.

Adding marble to your island would be excellent for food prep and baking. Choosing a dark ubba tubba for the surrounding cabinets would keep cost down and add nice contrast.

For a more durable material, look to Super white granite quartzite. You will get the beauty of marble with the durability of granite. There are many images available on Houzz.
