Sturbridge Yankee and Plow & Hearth have different types of braided rugs that can be special ordered. There is an outdoor version.

I wouldn't do a rug there. Of its wide enough for the chairs to pull back on, it will encroach in the walkway.

Instead I would add some colour with chair cushions and add a living plant to the cart over by the window.

I would place a rug there to brighten the floor a bit and to compliment the area besides the seat cushions unless Cathy prefers to replace it.

Lindsey, thank you for confirming a thought I had. The back door pretty much opens up directly into the dining area. I was thinking about downsizing to a 6’ round but I know that’s just too small.
I think I’m going to opt for a 2’x4’ runner at the door for foot traffic and add a throw on the table for color, texture and weight.
