Got a question for you. Were any of the seeds you achieved from your papilio x Santos pollen abnormally thick?

I used your pollen ( along with many others ) and got a few seeds on Machala.... wondering if the reticulatum genes might be the source of these fat seeds.

Sounds like you've done some interesting work. Here are pics from blancawing of a Santos x H. papilio cross posted to the RIP Santos thread. Curious how it would look with Papilio as the mother then crossed back to Papilio.

I did my own cross of papilio x Santos and seedpod is almost ready. I wonder what’s inside it as the seedpod is not as big as this papilio’s other seedpods.

I did this cross as I want to be very sure of the cross. I mean I myself pollinated my papilio with santos pollen in a controlled environment (indoors). Anything can happen out there. The resulting flowers of this cross that were posted here only came from one source and as seedlings...right? Hopefully my own cross would have a different result as the papilio I used is my special papilio.

The pollination was definitely done in a "controlled" environment in that it was done indoors and all other anthers were carefully removed so that they wouldn't contaminate my attempts :-)))

Sorry Fred I didn't mean that about your pollinations. I know you keep your hippies indoors. Some keep theirs outside in the garden where insects , wind etc. could possibly cause to pollinate the flower. I see some seeds being offered at horrendous prices and do wonder if the cross is truly what they are. I have bloomed clivias from $30-40 seed from South Africa that didn't look anything like it's parents.

Oh that's ok :-) I know many folks that use the open pollination method and the results are very varied.

Like you, all of my pollination attempts are performed indoors under controlled conditions. Congratulations on your seeds!!!

If you still have seed, I'd be interested! I'm still waiting to see if any of my seedpods result in viable seeds. I can share, if I get some good seed!

I did a walk around today to assess the seed pods I thought were developing. So far, it looks like a lot of attempts have aborted. I was really hoping for some good crosses this year, but I will not be getting as much seed as I'd expected. Right now, papilio x Lima and papilio x Evergreen are still looking good. I've had times where a big, fat seed pod was full of chaff too... so, we will see!

Hi Fred! The seeds arrived yesterday. Thank you for including plant stakes with the names of the crosses. That will make it easy to keep track of each of them. Let me know if you're interested in some seed too!

I feel like my seed pods are never going to ripen! I've been anxiously watching them because I want to know if they hold good seeds or just chaff. A watched pot never boils and a watched seed pod never ripens! LOL

Do cybisters typically make smaller seed pods than the big tetraploid Dutch hybrids? Right now, 3 of the 7 Evergreen blooms that I dusted with papilio pollen have pods, but they're about 1/2 the size of the pods on the plant I call "Big Red" (Big Red grows nearly 3 feet tall... she's a monster).

I just started growing plants (Adeniums and Plumerias) from seeds last year and a month ago, my sister-in-law gave me some amaryllis seeds and I had good luck germinating them. If you have any seeds left, I would love to try and grow more.

Evergreen's pods are yellowing, it shouldn't be long in our 100 degree weather for the pods to dry and split. I'm not sure whether the seeds will be viable. All 3 pods look small. "Big Red's" pods are the biggest I've ever seen... they dwarf Evergreen's pods!

I harvested a nice fat pod of open-pollinated Green Dragon seeds a week or two ago. I am really in a bad place as far as available space goes so I’m not thrilled about planting even more seeds. These are the first seeds I ever grew myself though, so I feel like I should still try! People here grow Hippeastrums in the ground and there are Johnsonii nearby, so I could get all kinds of stuff from these. I think I probably have enough to share if anyone is interested.
