I came up with a new idea. Do you think it will work?

I often use my ironing board as a work surface. The height is perfect for me (I'm 5'6") so I'm not bent over. The other day, as I was standing at my ironing board, doing some pinning, I thought "I wish this was larger". I would like to get a piece of MDF about 2'x52" and attach it to my metal base. No more pinning my ironing board cover! If I was a quilter, I would want a cutting mat inset into it. Bonus points for being easy to put away. Do you people think this could work? Has someone else already done something similar?

I have a big board ironing surface. Similar to the video but not screwed in. It has cleats on the underside which fit over the ironing board to keep it in place. I quite often use it for a cutting and trimming table by just placing a cutting mat on top. If installed permanently, you would not be able to use the board to iron.

Mine was used at our church for ironing altar cloths and I inherited it several years ago when our church closed.

MIne is like Theresa's. My husband made it with cleats to fit the sewing cabinet my dad built for my mom. Easy to remove but stays put when in use.

I never take it off and ironing clothes on it is quite easy.

I love the idea of cleats! I very seldom iron, unless it's to iron a seam for a zipper installation. I am in the process of turning comforters into duvet covers, 19 down 6 to go! and the decorative pillows that came with need to have zippers installed, and pillowcases made for the fill. Everything that came with the bedding sets needs to be altered to suit my use. One thing I have found that is a real time saver when changing the duvet covers is "snap tape", no more having to tie them into the corners.
