Lighting in Kitchen

Need help with lighting! This is the living/kitchen portion of our home. The wall dividing the kitchen from the living space has been removed, and is where we will have an island with seating. Our dilemma is adding some type of lighting above the island. We can't get into the ceiling so everything we add is exposed. Any advice on what type of lighting would be best is appreciated! This photo was taken before we bought the home and the style we are reflecting as we remodel is mid century modern with a hint of farmhouse.

Can an electrician put the wiring through or along the beam discreetly?

If you can get some wiring into the beam, then a good track light over your island would work.

I maybe wrong but it seems like your island won't be directly below the beam. So a pendant might not be the best choice. Hence, a track light which you can refocus.

Hmm. You say “hint of farmhouse”. Wire in conduit may give a bit rustic. But are the beams going to be painted? Exposed natural? Wire can easily be run in a faux wrap of the beams (maybe wrap in a natural wood to contrast plank ceiling?
